Quick delivery, have used many years ago but decided to go old school again and use a DE razor , hence need for a good skin soother and anti bleed solution , just in case of any nicks ;-) For those who take time and enjoy a good shave it's a must as part of the daily regime .Works well just make sure you wet face and the block with COLD after for best results. !Price was good compared to others online and in plastic box is handy for travel.Do NOT leave wet in a puddle after use or it just will crust up and wear away faster, after use leave on something to raise off flat surface I lay at angle on box edge and let it air dry and seems to work well .

I really can't believe that I have lived this long without knowing what alum is, and how to use it. It really is magic. Alum is a salt rock crystal that is antiseptic and astringent. Therefore if you nick or cut yourself whilst shaving, alum cleans it and makes the skin contract to stop the blood flow. The consistency is a hard crystal, but when it comes into contact with water it enables you to place it on your face and glide it over where you have just shaved. It is also one of the active ingredients in many deodorants and you can use it highly effectively under armpits as well.I find the best way is to wet my face and under arms and then use the block without wetting it. The alum picks up the water on face and under arms and starts to work. I use it every day after shaving and it works perfectly.I do a 2 hour dance class twice a week which is high energy, and whilst I do sweat, I don't develop body odour. The alum neutralises the bacteria that causes the odour. That is something many sports deodorants would struggle with but the alum handles it perfectly.As it is a salt crystal, you need to make sure it doesn't sit in water because then it will just dissolve away. If you use it as I described and then give it a quick rinse followed by a dry with a towel then it will last for ages. I bought mine at the beginning of March and it is barely half way through now we are nearing the end of May. Buy alum and forget about modern alternatives. None of them are as good as that.

Good size pieces that will last a long time. Always use these after shaving. Can also use them as a deodorant.

These ship in plastic boxes that are way too big - this is a valid criticism because they are knocked about in transit as they make their way to you. Mine have turned up chipped as a result. The blocks are also unpolished so have sharp, unpleasant edges to start with. The box is handy as you use them but should have had padding inside when shipped out.

I regularly shave my head and sometimes get minor cuts. Once I had a head shave at a barbers and realised the chap used what looked like a block of ice on my head and back of neck. I had no idea what it was. It was very soothing, particularly about 10-15 minutes later when I feel it kicks in.You wet the block and wet the irritation area and simply hold it there for a bit and then rub it around the area of the cut. That's it.Well worth having. I would prefer this than alcohol & chemical based products.

Would have been a 5 star but for the plastic box it comes in. lets start using less plastic, maybe a bamboo box? This works well for after shave procedure, stopping blood flows on any nicks and can also be used as a very effective deodorant. Just use with cold Not hot water. I recently did a 26 mile charity walk and no armpit smell at all after the walk.
