very pleased
Arrived quickly, very interesting, as few people said, the quality is not very good, but after all this is a re-print of the book published in 60-ties - probably the images weren't very sharp in first place.

An important picture archive but rather disappointing
This is a well known classic and referenced in many places. After reading "Ametora: How Japan Saved American Style" (which incidentally is a very good book but sparse on pictures) I was inspired to finally track down a copy - used and not cheap. In truth I'm disappointed. There are some great pictures but not that many. Also quite a few of them are poorly framed and out of focus. When one understands the context and history of the book, then that is understandable but still it is an issue. The main disappointment is about size and the number of pictures. If you are expecting a book of s similar size and quality as Black Ivy then you might be disappointed - see the attached pictures for comparison. It's an important book but really rather limited in nature. For me there are perhaps 10 pictures that have content of real interest. The text needs to be understood in context of when the original came out, so interesting but as a Japanese fashion historical perspective. If you are after picture inspiration then Black Ivy or Hollywood and the Ivy Look might be a better bet.

An interesting anachronism
This book is an interesting anachronism and after all the hype about the difficult-to-find Japanese original, over the past forty five years, a bit disappointing. Really it is just a series of snap-shots by some Japanese tourists stumbling around the Ivy League universities in the belief that they were on to something - but not at all sure what. I don't think these students thought they were part of a major sartorial movement - they were just dressing comfortably and cheaply as students do, in clothes that were easy to maintain. The text translated straight from the original Japanese, is cute though.

i thought the book would be bigger in size and seems like a reproduction of the original. a big let down...
