A makeshift coven try spells to make their wishes come true
I think I've read this before but neither reviewed nor rated it!I have to be honest I think this was a bit of a miss by Jane Lovering, usually I think she can do no wrong but this one didn't do it for me.Holly Grey is a location scout for TV programmes, she also spends a lot of time caring for her elder brother who tends to talk to walls and get depressed if he is off his meds. Her BFF Megan is one of life's optimists and forces Holly to join a women's group to do magic and make their dreams come true.Soon there are a leather-clad, long-haired investigative reporters (and their pregnant 20 year old daughters - well just the one daughter), ginger farmers, priapic Scotsmen, slobbering dogs, fke witches and lonely women to deal with.Kai Rhys has spent his life adrift, not knowing who he really is, feeling abandoned and unworthy, he tends to take out his feelings of worthlessness out on the women he sees, using and abandoning them with impunity until he meets Holly. For some reason this red-haired woman 'sees' him in a way no other woman has ever tried to.I'll be honest, I thought Kai was a whiner and needed to grow up. He tried to draw comparisons between himself and Holly, but frankly if you had an older brother who demonstrated that he couldn't look after himself, and parents who seemed incapable of recognising his issues, would't you step into the breach? I know I would rather mother my older brother than find out he had been found dead in a ditch after coming off his meds and walking alone on the moors until he froze to death. In comparison to the other Jane Lovering books I have read this was also short of laugh out loud humour, the 'coven' didn't really go anywhere and I didn't feel invested in any of the characters.

Delicious Witchy goodness
If you could cast a magic spell to get whatever you wanted. What would you wish for? I'd wish for a sequel to this book. What I really liked, is that the magic is based in reality. Was it magic? Or everything working out for the best. That is what I think real magic is, not having 100% proof but still believing. Not one over the top nose twitch here.Kai is a wonderful three dimensional character full of angst and smouldering Welsh-ness. Holly is a strong modern heroine who doesn't need saving; She lives by her own rules. It was a lovely story full of redemption, friendship and love. I highly recommend this book, it is a fast paced, action filled, feel good story. You won't ever go wrong with a Jane Lovering book, each one is as good as the last one. Happy reading.(I purchased this book based on other reviews on amazon)

A funny, thrilling, mystic, romantic story.
If you've read Jane Lovering's other books you'll already suspect that Yorkshire isn't quite the down-to-earth, call a spade a bloody shovel place you once imagined. (Apart from the one set in America that is, and that's obviously a strange place at the best of times). This is a tale that has genuinely chilling villains, plus dabblers in the mystic arts with various obscure motives. The central character is someone easily identifiable with apart from her wonderful turn of phrase - the sort of stuff we'd LIKE to come up with - and initially a somewhat pragmatic attitude to sex/love.This was a real can't-put-it-down read. (Or when forced to put it down, to eat, or speak to people, I was pondering what was going to happen next.)And the ending was good!

Something different
I don't normally read what I'd call "romance" novels but this was brilliant! The characters are, as always, well drawn. The mix of humour, warmth, wit and character pulls everything together. The touch of magic described just adds to the story and I got thoroughly drawn into the characters and what was happening. Really enjoying this author and her style of writing. Give it a go, well worth a read.

Romance and laughter....a lot of laughter!
This is one of the funniest novels I've read in a long time. Some sentences had me crying with laughter and unable to proceed! Even now, a few days on, I think of one particular paragraph and start chuckling:"Aiden was still there. I could tell from outside. And from the flickering inconsequential nature of the light I could see from behind the curtains, he'd either lit candles or set fire to the tablecloth."The characters are so believable and Holly is almost an anti-hero, as she is such a realist and so down to earth. No flights of fancy for Holly! Her relationship with her brother is very special but will she let this stop her growing desire for Kai? This makes her inability to resist the attraction between her and Kai even more believable. Will definitely be reading more of Jane Lovering books!

Another great hero!
I'm not sure from where Jane Lovering conjures up her heroes, but she certainly has given us some crackers this time. I think Kai has to be my favourite hero so far. I also love her heroines and secondary characters who seem to leap out of the book fully formed. The novel had a strong plot which kept me guessing as to who the 'bad guys' were. Added to that is Ms Lovering's talent for description. I especially liked the cats sitting on top of the piano "like a row of malevolent tea cosies". Fabulous. If you like different plots, slightly wacky characters and a believable romance, then I would recommend this book.

Brilliant!
Jane Lovering is an author who manages to blend humorous story telling with some very serious issues, and at the same time deliver a very satisfying romance. This was another great read from her, which I literally couldn't put down. I felt for the heroine, whose life has been more or less put on hold as she tries to care for a brother who is not like other people, and I fell in love with the hero, despite his less than perfect past. The cast of secondary characters was wonderful too and I can't wait for the author's next book!

A Magical Chuckle!
Jane's story of witchcraft and women, not to mention a suitably feisty heroine and a dash of the dark, not to mention a sprinkling of crime make this a long and entertaining chuckle of a read.Well-drawn main protagonists and plenty of supporting characters make this a lively romp through the hills and woods of North Yorkshire.I'm now looking forward to Jane's next publication.
