God's truth explained and applied
I've been reading through the Old Testament prophets recently and have followed along with the entries in this devotional. My impressions so far are that Mr. Tripp rightly upholds God's truth as the authoritative source for life and godliness, and it gives a good balance of explanation, application, and encouragement in each daily devotional reading. The book does not shy away from hard truths of man's sinfulness and God's justice, but it also matches these topics with God's love, mercy, and grace. There is no way that a devotional tied to reading the Bible in a year could address every question or explain every issue, so I can't expect that. In fact, the meat of daily reading will naturally be in the scriptures. So this is a supplement that draws out key truths and applications for the reader.Functionally, this book lays flat right out of the package, which is fantastic! It also has a ribbon to keep your spot. The paper is good quality as well.Overall, this looks like an excellent addition to a daily, year-long Bible-reading endeavor.

Daily walk through the Bible from beginning to end
This book by Paul Tripp is divided up into reading for each day of the year (excluding February 29, so you will get a day off on leap years). The book follows scripture from Genesis to Revelation. As such, you will need to wait until late September to get to the New Testament. Don’t worry, though, as Tripp makes sure that each reading points forward to its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. This is a thoroughly Christ-centered walk through the Bible. Each day starts by laying out a few chapters of the Bible, which the reader can read on their own if they so desire. He then provides a reflection on those chapters, including a brief quote from that section of scripture interspersed at some point in the reflection. As such, this book can be used as a brief daily reflection, or can be used a full devotions if the whole scripture is read in addition to the text in the book.Overall, this is a great new daily devotional, and one that repeatedly points the reader toward the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Like a friend helping you stay in the Word
Paul David Tripp has written this devotional to help us read the whole Word of God in one year.I like that Tripp uses a variety of approaches in the daily readings. Some days, he uses personal experiences while other days, he teaches, but either way, he includes some practical ways to see how the Word applies to our everyday life. I included the devotions from John 17 and Romans 11 as examples of how he makes these connections.Flipping to a daily devotion in the book of Judges, I see the context of the passage is given, which is very helpful to me to get a better understanding of the meaning. The big benefit of Tripp's notes in the Old Testament is that they will help me stay in those books that are harder to relate to.The book itself looks and feels high quality and is suitable for personal use or to give as a gift to a friend.

Detailed and In-depth Devotional
If you are looking for a "get in and get out" kind of devotional, then this is not it.Tripp has authored a detailed, daily devotional that will deepen your relationship with God. For each day of the year, he has suggested reading from the Bible that - if you follow it - will move you through the entire Bible in that year. He has a short summary statement of that reading and then spends several paragraphs explaining the connection of that reading to life itself.I am looking forward to using this in 2025, when I finished my current daily devotional. One way you can use it is to read the Bible passages at one part of the day (maybe in the morning) and then his commentary later (maybe at lunch). That keeps you focused and meditating on the truth of God's Word all throughout the day.
