OK, but with exceptions.
For the most part, this guidebook was helpful, with a couple of notable exceptions. On page 189 there's a sidebar for Hatcher Pass, including this description of the Hatcher Pass Lodge: "If the weather is nice and you have the funds, it's hard to pass up spending the night at Hatcher Pass Lodge...a highly recommended splurge." Really? Imagine our surprise when we checked in at the front desk and found that our cabin (at $145 per night) had no running water and was equipped with a chemical toilet. There was a communal shower available in the main lodge, open from 9 am to 9 pm. We also used this guide for lodging recommendations around Anchorage. There is no mention of several reasonably priced motels on Spenard Rd near the airport.

Not very convincing
I have not yet had teh chance to test the information from this guide book on the ground -- will be doing that this summer -- but my initial reaction is that the lack of detail makes me question the reliability of the information.

Broad overview of Alaska
As one would suspect, with such a broad subject as "Alaska", there is a little bit of information on a lot of places. I'm going to have to look elsewhere for more details of specific paths, outings, restaurants, etc.

Not so Helpful for Us
Found it hard to use and follow without a lot important data. Sorry. I know it does help a lot of people.

Don’t buy this book.
The words were too tiny. I just use low power 1.5 readers to read. The letter in this book were way to small. It was frustrating to read. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Perfect summaries of towns in Alaska and along the Canadian border.
Checked this book and two others out at our local library. My husband and I are taking a cruise/land tour of Alaska and we wanted to see as much of it in our free time as we could. This book was perfect! It gave a brief summary of the towns with things to see, the cost, address/phone #, hours/days open, a wealth of information. It has map sections with the attractions marked and a map at the back that unfolds. For our needs it was everything I wanted. It's small enough to fit in my purse or a fanny pack. It's well indexed and organized. We are in our sixties and wear glasses, the print didn't bother us. I look forward to receiving my book so I can tab and high light the towns and attractions we want to visit. Would highly recommend it as a travel guide. If more info is wanted, because of its cultural diversity and historical events, more specific books would probably work better.

A good read that gives broad brush reviews
When I travel, I like to use Lonely Planet or Rough Guides as my guides. Rough Guides are good for small areas because they are good at narrow, but deep, descriptions. Lonely Planet is good at describing a wide variety of areas that aren’t deep about these area, so would fit bigger areas. This book covers a large, multi-varied, US state, with not so much in it, so might not fit Rough Guide so well. You don’t get huge detail, about a place with not much in it, but you do get a lot of choice (about what to do) in any area you visit.

Lonely Planet Alaska 2018 - einfach klasse
Dieser Lonely Planet hat mich wirklich überzeugt. Detaillierte Routenbeschreibungen, viele B&B.Absolute Kaufempfehlung. Allerdings ist die extra Karte nutzlos.
