The Last Archer: Green Ember Archer, Book 1

I enjoyed the Green Ember books a great deal.These are wonderful stories for both kids and adults that feature characters with real flaws that work hard over the course of the stories to overcome their own shortcomings and do the right thing.This book is set during the Green Ember series books time line.There might be some spoilers if you have read the Green Ember, main series already, but this takes place on the Misty Mountain while action is occurring at other places in the seminal series.The main character in this book is Jo Shanks who is a bunny from the wrong side of the burrow. His father died with huge debts and Jo voluntarily took those debts on. One of the things that his dad loved was serving in the bunny, Green Ember military until an injury discharged him. Jo has taken up the mantle to redeem his now deceased father's good name.Jo suffers from some self doubt issues, and several times early in the story he hesitates to take action causing grief for him and those around him (including a combat case).You meet the heroes from the Green Ember series, but they play supporting roles in this book.The title comes from the times in the book when Jo is the last archer and the last chance.Without giving anything away, Jo in fact overcomes his hesitancy, and saves the day.I loved this uplifting, well written book.I highly recommend it.

Interesting.engaging. fast paced. Kids loved it. Worth while. Good lessons. Teacher approved. Exciting. Kids are excited to hear more. Recommended

I feel like S.D. Smith writes a lot like Tolkien, Lewis, and Andrew Peterson. P.S. I have read all of their books. I am a christian myself and I love the way it relates to the Bible. I like how Tolkien, Lewis, and Peterson did the same in their stories also. I would like to give you a long story short of my book. ( it isn't published.) * No-va sko-sha My story takes place in a peaceful world where the happy King and Queen rule. *Nova Scotia. They had three daughters Mariah, Lucia, and Cloe. One is the heir. There is also a poor girl named Mary. When the academy is over run by dwarfs and trolls a mysterious archer comes and saves Mary and a bunch of children. Princess Lucia gets captured and lies in the dungeon awaiting a rescuer. Who is the mysterious archer? If you would like to know more please say so in a review. After finishing the four main books of the series, I read this little book and it explained a lot of things that had been hinted at. I liked the shortness of it after being immersed in the other books for hours, not able to put them down. It gave more context to the way the rabbits felt about the Longtreader siblings at first. I highly recommend every book written by S.D. Smith.

In “The Last Archer” by S.D. Smith, Jo Shanks is Living at Halfwind Citadel. It’s wartime between the rabbits and the wolves, and Jo is desperate to prove he’s as good an archer as the famed Nate Flynn. But he doesn’t seem to make a very good soldier – he oversleeps, he has an unpolished sword, and his commanding officer has little use for him. But there’s an archery contest, and Jo proves his skill by not only placing but coming very close to beating Nate.Nate needs a temporary replacement on his team of archers, and he asks Jo to fill in. Jo discovers that Nate is nothing like Jo imagined him to be. He still has trouble with the commanding officers, but he finds he’s fitting in with Nate’s crew. And then the wolves attack and enter the citadel itself.The story has underlying lessons aimed at children (but equally valid for adults). They’re about obedience, mistaken impressions, trust, and having courage in the face of overwhelming odds. Using rabbits instead of children likely takes some of the immediate terror out of the situations, but children will identify with Jo, Nate, and their friends. It’s a rollicking good story, with good messages.

A great story about Jo Shanks, a very lovable character.It’s always interesting to see the major events told from another angle and character perspective.When I read the Green Ember, I was eager to know what happened to the injured rabbit Heather helped on the battlefield, so it’s especially nice to read his story here.Another triumph for S.D Smith.

Don't leave out these "extra" books when reading The Green Ember series, we read them in order of release and the inbetween books were some of our favourites!

It’s part of a series for young to mid teens that I’d heard of and tried it for the experience.

Loved it great story can get enough of them action galore thrills and so much more in this great set of books if you ha ent yet read them wth why what's stopping u dong be put off by kids books I wasn't and glad it ook chance in it great stories in each books great prices well worth it on to the next one for me can't put them down check them out for yourself what you waiting for come on

The only negative comments are:1 I wish it had been longer...2 I wish I had somehow known that these three books come BEFORE the Green Ember trilogy so I could have read them in the right order.3 I wish there were MANY MANY MORE....

Just very good book
