Nice idea, but with higher end graphics, heat is an issue!
I bought the Skylake i5 version with an upgraded cpu cooler, ram and a GTX 980TI GPU. Machine is a great concept but fails horribly with the 980ti inside. The airflow and cooling is awful, I reached 93 degrees on GPU Z while playing Just Cause 3 !! Needless to say I began looking for better cooling. I removed the bottom cover, which almost completely blocks the GPU air intake and there is only about 5mm between the case and the GPU. Bottom cover off and putting the box on some 25mm rubber feet did improve temps considerably, down to about 75--80.In the end I stripped out all of the components and built them back up in a thermaltake core V1 - Much better. Should have done this in the first place and saved myself some cash, but was just attracted to the whole idea of a slim powerful pc in a console sized box.

I feel I need to write something as although I actually brought mine direct from the supplier as Amazon don't seem to stock the I7 version, I imagine the I3 version to have many of the same benefits. I didn't really need a Steam machine/PC console for the living room as I already have a PS4 but I did like the idea of a PC there as well for gaming, this unit delivers perfectly. It looks the part with a hefty weight but plenty of venting on the back sides and top for airflow and a choice of three colours of subtle lighting on the front.Although mine has a GTX 970 4gb card I was suprised how quiet it was even under load (about the same as the PS4). Easier to set up (mine has windows 10) than I expected and I was away within five minutes of turning it on. I had a slight issue where Steam big picture mode was unable to find the wireless signal which I got around by installing Steam again, job done. All in all, perfect as a living room PC for gaming and as an entertainment centre!

Do not waste your money, this is literally throwing it away.
Terribly designed and faulty components,I have had mine a week the wireless network card and the Gfx card both already need replacing. The tracking pad doesn't work if your further than 30 cm away from the console, the keyboard is impractically small , it's heavier than an xbox and attention paid to cosmetics is non existent . The steamOs has been setup in a very clumsy manner the alpha at least is setup in a way you would forget or not even know that windows was the back end this is setup like a standard desktop sending you into the mess that is windows 8 then auto running steam leaving you to deal with the alt tab bugs on an unresponsive keyboard with keys smaller than telephone keyboards. To top of this unprecedented failure in design it has a higher purchase price than it's competitor and since the company that manufactures it offers no support or warranty it has become a £600 doorstop.
