I Hate Fairyland Volume 4: Sadly Never After (I HATE FAIRYLAND TP)

Bittersweet ending
Fluff my life, I cannot believe this series of graphic novels are over. I have loved each and every volume of this amazing series. I will miss Gert, Larry and the gang. This was a bittersweet goodbye to a series that has made smile from ear to ear from start to very end. Will defiantly pick up Skottie Young's next series.

Such a bittersweet ending
I loved every minute of it, and I'm sad her adventure stops, but I'm glad I got to read through it, definitely a must-read!

Great finale
Brilliant. Skottie Young has come up with another masterpiece. I’m just sad it is the end of an era.

Thin Line Between Love and Hate
If you were to just pick up a single issue of this series at random, well, it might not grab you. It's loud and frantic. The colors are loud, the characters are loud, the lettering is loud. It just punches you in your muffin fluffing face, and doesn't seem to have much of a plot or point. But that's not fair. Try a TP and it all starts to come together. You get a feel for the characters, you get on the right humor wavelength, you pick up the plot thread, and you start to enjoy and appreciate the project. And this TP is a fine place to start, even though it's TP Volume 4 and may mark the end of the series, (you can never be entirely sure about things like that). The idea is that Gertrude was kidnapped into Fairyland. It should be, you know, a fairyland of fun. But Gert doesn't like being told when and how to have fun. And it turns out that Fairyland has some weird, violent, and crazy stuff going on behind the scenes. The rest of the series covers Gert's attempts to get home, and since her plans always fail, she really, really starts to hate Fairyland. This time around Gert is dead and is in Fairyland Hell. Fairyland Satan, by the way, is a very deadpan funny guy. Evil Queen Cloudia, who Gert finished off in an earlier issue, is back, so Gert has to come back to Fairyland from Hell in order to duke it out with her again. As a reward/incentive, she'll be sent back to her real home if she succeeds. While that's the story arc there is, as you might imagine, a lot of other stuff going on, and most of the fun here is in the little bits and throwaways that get tucked into the narrative. Larry the alcoholic bug is back, as is Duncan Dragon, and they each get featured treatment, which is a nice touch. As I say, everything here is colorful and sort of frantic, but that is nicely balanced by some deadpan humor and clever asides and by the fairytale parody vibe. All in all I got a kick out of this candy colored TP and enjoyed my trip to Fairyland. Certainly more fun than Dorothy in Oz.(Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

Good but not amazing
This arrived in good quality apart from a slight dink in the cover.Sadly this volume was not as good as the rest the humour was flat, repetitive and felt lacking it's usual irony!

The end is nigh!
I Hate Fairyland is over! It hurts!I Hate Fairyland has remained my favourite graphic novel series throughout the years, I don't know where I'mgoing to find the perfect balance of cute to murder anymore!I loved this volume as much as the other three, it had the same vibe and Ger was her usual self, that being said I don't know if I enjoyed the ending I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that.I would still highly recommend the series to anyone looking for something a bit different and as it is complete it is the perfect time to get on board and binge.

Cute, fun
Item came on time and as expected. My children and I have read Vol. 1. We all enjoyed it. We have yet to read 2-4. I suspect they will be awesome. Skottie Young is an excellent story teller and artist! These books are geared more towards the mature, but that also depends on your level of sensibility. The curse words are cute like “fluff,” replacing an F bomb and there is violence. My 7 year old son read Vol. 1, but I’m no pearl clutcher. It’s honestly pretty tame compared to many video games and shows these kids are entertained by, but for some reason, some people get uptight when it’s in print. Just a heads up. In the end, it’s a cute, fun, worthwhile read.
