A Classic of dreariness
This is good in places but it was long treks across blandness in others!

love to read
3 short stories - read each in one sitting - got caught up in story and characters immediately - first story gives some interesting details about children's lives in the late 1800's (including parent's adding a little claret wine to pink up the water glasses for the children)and women's lives in the early 1900's. The second story is about life on an isolated farm in the same period. The third is about the life of a young woman toward the end of WW1. All deal with love and death in some form. I will definitely look for other stories written by Ms. Porter. To some extent, I think that these stories, if done in movie form now would be called "chick flicks" although the themes of love and death would be of interest to both men and women.
