The Bodyguard [DVD]

A Chic-Flik Classic
A predictable plot of a story but who cares, Whitney Houston, Kevin Costner and all the cast make the characters believable and the music is awesome which Whitney excels and making you also want to buy the soundtrack which goes with it. I also love how all the characters are given some filling and characterisation all contributing into making the film have substance. The reason I class it now as a classic is obvious in the fact this film will always be one we all remember Whitney Houston was at her best in this film and reminds us what talent she had and what lost potential there has been in her much too early tragic death, but also it is a film you can re-visit and enjoy. One of my favourite films

"I'm not your shopping assistant!" [Frank]
This is a 1992 American romantic thriller in which Bill Devaney (Bill Cobbs), seeks the services of a professional bodyguard to protect Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston), a Grammy-nominated music superstar from an unknown stalker. Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) is the reluctant bodyguard drafted in to protect her. Rachel is unaware of the threats and the attempt on her life so views Frank as an intrusion, but as the extent of her danger dawns on her, Rachel soon sees Frank in a different light.Ultimately this film is a vehicle for Houston' own music career and it shows. Costners' scenes are often quite grainy whilst Houston' are sharper -especially her singing spots and it's obvious where most of the budget went. It's very much a pop video collection linked by a flimsy story. The acting is strong -for the most part, but does flounder in places and it's obvious that Houston is more at ease singing than acting. The plot is quite obvious even with a number of twists but they do not really throw you off. The script tends to stroll along but some parts do suddenly jarr as they change direction too quickly. My disc entered the movie straight on insert and I could not access the special features [selected via hitting menu on your remote -lose a *]. Yet despite the flaws it's still a good piece of entertainment even though there are holes in the script and it doesn't seem as though it's over 2 hours long. There is some swearing and an unexplicit sex scene which probably caused this to be a 15 rating, but in reality it could have easily been a ***** 12 with minor adjustments. Deserving more than *** it scrapes in with ****.

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE WHITNEY
What more could you ask for? Kevin Costner & Whitney's singing. We all loved it. Loved the songs. Cried at the end & we are still crying today. RIP Whitney.

Great for the music, with a strong storyline
Great twist at the end of this story (well, I didn't see it coming when I first watched it many years ago). Great acting, though I probably love the soundtrack more than the film.

Surprisingly poor given the hype
Hasn't really stood the test of time, or perhaps it wasn't all that good when it first came out?

Great film
Bought the DVD as recently seen the stage show in London, which was absolutely brilliant. It sparked my interest in the film again and so I decided to purchase it. I do remember it from the first time around, and I just love the songs and the story. Well worth having in your DVD collection.
