A Joy to Own!
The quality of this boxed set of little books is as good as I remember it from many (many) years ago. I was really surprised to find that the print was all still hand written (well, it looks it) and the pictures are all still hand drawn just as the original A Wainwrights were. Nothing has changed, except now by the wonders of Far Eastern printing and binding the price is (comparatively) a tenth of what it was in my youth. Though the books are pocket sized and could be taken on the walk they aren't of "outdoor" quality. But apart from planning the route before hand we have enjoyed reading about the walk we had yesterday and picking up familiar details of a protruding knoll or stone built sheep pen. This set is a joy to own, you don't have to cover all 214 walks in your life, leave that to Wainwright!

Absolutely essential
This series of books may well be on the expensive side but they are an essential purchase for anyone that enjoys walking in the Lakeland Fells. The Wainright's are rightly regarded as the pinnacle of books of their type and it is easy to see why. Beautifully illustrated by the author and with several different routes described for the many fells covered, this is by far the best set of books I have seen on the subject. Some of the routes are a little out of date now but that doesn't really matter as you can still find your way round. Also, the seven books in the series are a very handy size for you to carry in your ruck sack or even your pocket. If you aren't sure if you should spend this amount of money on this set the best thing that I can advise is that you do splash out. It really is worth it and you will consider it as money well spent.

Excellent purchase
I bought this set as a present for my partner. He was over the moon with it, as was I with the attention to detail put into each book. We'll definitely be trying out some of the walks contained in them.

Wonderfully detailed
Went to the Lake District for the first time and fell in love with the walks and the landscape. Wainwright captures the beauty perfectly and provides a doorway to greater discoveries that will take years to explore. Invaluable.

There is an Overpricing of this same item out there
We have used these books on each of our walks to ensure the best route taken. Be careful of the sale of these same books on Amazon for 6 times the original price of 69.99!!!!

Great boxed set
I bought this boxed set after watching a TV series about the Wainwright walks. I keep the books on my nightstand and browse through them at bedtime. I don't intend on talking any of the walks but I marvel at the detailed descriptions and the beautiful illustrations. Would make a thoughtful gift for anyone who enjoys hiking or nicely done pen and ink drawings.

Amazing and beautiful
Stunning and absolutely gorgeous little books. I'm likely never going to walk the fells but with these I will feel like I am there. An amazing piece of work and I highly recommend this set.

A Classic
what can one say about Wainright that hasn't been said already? Wainright guides have been the bible of Fell walkers for 50 years now and are set, with the recent revisions of his classic guides, to have that reputation reinforced for a new generation of fell walkers, coast to coasters and Pennine Way-ers. Beautiful in their presentation this Anniversary Edition is a joy to touch and read. I would also like to credit the wonderful Julia Bradbury and the Wainright Society for bringing this wonderful man and his guides to my attention.
