Definitely recommend this over other more expensive shovels!
This shovel survived (and helped me survive) the record snowfall of over 30 inches in the 2016 blizzard in PA. When shopping for a shovel, I did not want to spend 40$ plus on a shovel that will be used a couple days of the year, but also did not want to spend 5$ and have it break in half. This shovel is an amazing tool at an amazing price. The plastic gives it a lightweight, but no way a cheap feel. It is a sturdy shovel that I will be using for many seasons to come, i'm sure. The metal strip at the bottom is stronger than I thought. I was worried that hittint the edge on lifted sidewalks will bend the strip or break it off, but nope. Its taken a BEATING so far and it is still straight and sharp. The only con is that compact snow tends to stick to the shovel, but that is nothing a little non-stick spray can't take care of. Overall, I am very happy with this shovel, will definitely recommend it to friends and family( which I already have) and will buy another myself.

Better than the average snow shovel!
This is a high quality shovel. The metallic edge on the bottom makes it easy to scrape the last of the snow off of a tight blacktop, or chip away at ice. The handle has textured portions that give it a better sense of feel than something that would be smooth. Great for heaving snow if your gloves get slippery. Finally, the trough portion of the shovel is deeper than normal, making it suitable for a "plow" style on walkways and the like. Very versatile tool!

One of the Best Snow Shovels I Have Used
This(2014) has been one of the worst Winters that I can remember in the Northeast. Every week we get one or more storm(s). Wind, Snow, Freezing Rain, Sleet or all of the above. Add to this Arctic temperatures every other day. It has been challenging both physically and psychologically. It seems like I work, eat, sleep, and shovel snow/ice.The cure for this condition will be Spring. For now I can only deal with it, and this(Suncast SC2700 snow shovel) is the main method for those of us who do not have access to snow blowers(or lack time to prepare one for use).A good(all purpose) snow shovel is built from solid materials, has a good durable build quality, has a metal edge/strip for scraping concrete/asphalt surfaces, and has a blade with high snow capacity.A poor quality shovel made from cheap plastic will only last a couple of storms before it breaks/cracks and then has to be thrown away.[Update 2017]This Suncast shovel has good build quality and feels like it is designed to last for a while, it is made in the USA. Nothing shakes or rattles, parts are not loose, everything is held together by metal screws. There is a metal edge/strip on the bottom for scraping ice and snow, the angle and shape is nearly ideal, I can take a thin layer of ice off of asphalt without scratching the surface. The snow/ice capacity is very good, it seems like I can move tons of snow with this shovel, the design helps to "scoop" the snow while the ribs on the bottom glide over the surface. The edges are higher than on other shovels(which are designed with a more flat scoop/blade) which keeps the snow/ice within the edges and it does not shift or fall off easily. The shovel blade is made from what I believe is polyethylene and I guess it is infused with graphite. It is not a thin material but I did (originally) wish they made metal shovels with a similar design(I use a separate aluminum[and now also a steel] shovel to break up frozen snow/ice) [as of 2017 there is an aluminum purpose built snow shovel made by True Temper available but I don't own it]. Somewhere inside the shovel(most likely the long handle) there is a steel core. The handle is covered in small friction "bumps" that help maintain a good grip. Overall the shovel is well built but I don't believe it will last more than a decade.Since originally buying my 1st one I also bought a 2nd one about a year later, along with other Suncast shovels. My 1st one(bought 2013) has taken on multiple "record" blizzards in the Northeast but keeps going. I try to buy from different sellers which offers the best price.

Great shovel (especially love the edge!)
I purchased this shovel in response to the other great reviews left here, and I wasn't disappointed.Overall, I would definitely recommend this shovel to anyone with snow. What I'm most impressed with is the edge of the shovel- it's easy to scrape right down to the driveway/walkway and getting all the snow off (instead of leave a thin layer that inevitably becomes packed down and slippery). It holds quite a bit of snow, which makes moving it easier. I think this shovel worked well both in a "push snow" and a "pick up and throw snow" capacity. Highly recommended!

Very solid snow shovel.
Very solid snow shovel. Steel edge is great for breaking up ice. Solid, stiff shaft for heavy loads. Also works well as a big dust pan for landscaping waste.

Snow Shovel
Living in VA Beach, VA, we don't see much snow and no one sells snow shovels here, but we did get 8" of the white fluffy stuff, the first week in Feburary. I was not going to be unprepared for the next snow fall, whether it came thiis year or next year. This particular snow shovel I did get to use, by borrowing my neighbors. I knew that I had to have one just like theirs, as it was the best snow shovel I've ever used and I lived in New Hampshire many years ago. This snow shovel is very sturdy, easy on the back and works like a snow plow.

Heavy shovel, weak people beware.
This is a very nice shovel, appears durable and heavy duty. Key word is HEAVY. It is listed at just over four pounds, but I can't imagine lifting this baby with a shovel full of snow. It definitely feels much heavier than four pounds. Its a monster of a shovel, probably better suited for men with a fireman or wrestler build than for my family, none of whom weighs more than 145 pounds. Shoveling over here is a family affair, so this one is going back. Oh well.

This has most of the qualities of a great snow shovel
This has most of the qualities of a great snow shovel. It's strong points are the shape of the blade, the strong leading edge of the blade, the strong handle, and the grip at the end. All work together to make a durable shovel with a high capacity load. The only drawback is that it is relatively heavy compared to shovels with plastic blades and shafts. If you only expect to do very light shoveling, you may want to find a high rated plastic blade and handle. I rejected those when an accident caused my plastic shaft broke in two, from relatively light pressure.

Very nice shovel
Best plastic shovel I have have owned. The geometry is excellent for my height. It is a joy to push snow with. It looks like someone actually designed it. Time will tell how it lasts but it just seems well designed. The last few plastic shovels have been a disaster. They all have broken

Good shovel but heavy.
Would have given it 5 stars but it is really heavy. We are seniors and while it works well to clean snow down to the concrete it is very tiring to use because of the weight. Wear strip on blade works well to protect the shovel but it makes scraping an uneven surface difficult.
