Black Mirror: Series Four

Watching season 4 made me feel like the creativity of the writers is burning out. The season is watchable, but starts weakly and overall offers only a couple of good episodes. You've seen it all before and it lacks the wow factor surprises and writing we saw in the earlier seasons. The issues and good points are clear when you review the episodes in season 4 individually:USS McAllister - this episode doesn't work. There's no explanation or reason as to why the DNA duplicated characters gained self awareness, plus many other plot holes. A cross between bad fan fiction and a rehash of previous episode ideas.Archangel - the concept fits and was a great idea badly executed. It's watchable, but the writers should have taken more chances and made it really controversial. Instead it's too predictable and offers nothing in the way of surprises.Crocodile - a darker episode, but dragged out and it's credibility ruined by a cheesy, cringe worthy ending that left me laughing (and not in a good way!).Hang the DJ - only halfway through the season do we get the first decent episode. Fantastic casting for the leads. A dark romance story very reminiscent of San Junipero, but with it's own angle.Metalhead - a tense episode and particularly good shoot in black and white. This could have been a classic, but like Crocodile, it's let down by the impression that the writers totally overestimated how good the ending actually was.Black Museum - another good one about the perils of technology that links people together. This is a strong episode in a very weak season.

Maybe not the strongest season of Black Mirror, but still well worth watching.However I would have to recommend avoiding the Blu-Ray. Colours are completely washed out and desaturated across all episodes, very dissapointing.

Good sci-fi sketches holding mirror to our reality -- but does not quite live up to the earlier series

I can't agree with the bad reviews for this series. Okay there was one really boring episode for me - the stupid post-apocalyptic black-and-white one with the robot - but the rest were really good. "Crocodile" especially stood out for me. SS Calister wasn't totally brilliant but was watchable, Hang the DJ, Arkangel and Black Museum held my interest which is good enough for me.

Simply a must for any collection.

Black Mirror just keeps getting better as Charlie Brooker refines and improves his creative sci-fi output. Crocodile, USS Callister and Black Museum are particular highlights in this series. San Junipero from series 3 remains my all-time favourite episode but season 4 has a stronger episode offering overall. Go buy.

I think that every episode every season is very good. Some episodes are better than others but always thought provoking. This seasons last episode “Black Museum” had me “laughing in terror” They really created a masterpiece. Great Fun!!!!
