I really needed this book
As a caregiver to a loved one with dementia, this book is a Godsend. I found the suggestions for self-care both insightful and timely. If you care for someone else, you also need to care for yourself. Perhaps this book will help you get started.

Basic, patronizing, unhelpful.
This just isn't the book for me. I'm a spousal caregiver and a professional therapist so I was excited about this book. However, I found it a bit insulting and patronizing. I wanted to love it, but I didn't like it at all.

Good reinforcement.
Nothing super new or earth shattering but helps to see and hear it in writing. Care for self in order to have energy to care for others.

Self care is a must and Mindfulness approach works
Excellent Resource for any caregiver experiences. The concept of mindful activities can be applied to many real life experiences. So happy I bought this book as I am primary caregiver for my mom.

good for caregiver read
Good conversation with caregivers on the challenges of caring for another, what it means, and how the client can explore the emotions and ups and downs of caregiving. It also speaks to the universality of caregiving in generation (you are not alone).

If you are a Caregiver, this is your handbook!
I purchased this book to read in preparation for a workshop and was not very far along when I realized what a valuable resource "The Conscious Caregiver" is. Linda Abbit's book is a wonderful companion to bring with you on your caregiving journey; her soulful approach to caregiving begins with acknowledging one's role as a caregiver and travels through to the territory of grief and loss at the end of one's caregiving experience. There are tips, exercises and resource suggestions throughout and the writing and subject stays gentle, straight forward and focused (because as caregivers, that is exactly what we need!). If you don't need this yet, I'm pretty sure you know someone who does.

and love involved in caregiving
It is as if the author was reading my mind.... The Conscious Caregiver obviously understands the challenges and accompanying worry, guilt, and love involved in caregiving. First, I felt understood (and maybe not so abnormal!) while reading about the conflicting feelings of caring for a loved one. Then I learned how to handle varied situations, handled with respect for both the caregiver and the person being cared for. The author's years of experience are evident in the practical solutions described.. Finally, I marked sections for future use, places we aren't at yet but may be eventually. I recommend the skilled experience, respectful perspective, immediately useful suggestions, and compassion in the this book.

So disappointing!!!
This book is highly rated and I just started reading it. I could already see that it was worth its ratings and the pages started tearing at the bottom through out the book. I just missed the return date. This is so frustrating. This is a manfucturing issue - not author.
