Nothing like her first book.
This is the follow up to Nuala Gardner's first book, "A Friend Like Henry," which told the story of one family's struggles to raise an autistic child. The first book was absolutely amazing, however, I am 25% of the way through this one (according to my Kindle) and I'm ready to stop reading. The point of view of this book is so different than the first one. It's more educational and matter-of-fact and less "story." In addition, as indicated by the cover photo (notice she's in the forefront of the picture), Nuala talks a lot about how her struggles and how the first book launched her career and opened up doors for her. I don't feel connected to Dale at all in this book and I feel sorry for Jamie, as he's clearly been ignored for years - I'm certain if I continue reading, there is a divorce in the future. Also, she discovered something called the excalamation point and uses it constantly. I'm going to take a break for a few days and see if I'm still interested in continuing.

I Could Hardly Put It Down
All Because of Henry is not only an amazing book to read but also an Important book for understanding what it means to be autistic. The book is the continuation of the Gardner's story, which was introduced in A Friend Like Henry. This book will appeal to readers who are interested in the relationships between humans and dogs and those who enjoy reading about families working through difficult struggles.

Lovely & informative story of Henry the dog
What an interesting book! I learned a lot I didn't know about autism & find it interesting to know as I have a family member with what many of us think is undiagnosed Asperger's. No one knew what to call it when he was a kid. At any rate, I'm not sure how this couple survived the first several years with their son Dale--he was SO difficult to handle & so frustrated himself at his inability to understand the world around him. It would be so hard on a marriage & totally exhausting. The story of how Henry the dog came into their lives & worked such miraculous change is truly lovely & inspiring.

Very Good
I liked this a lot and was interested in finding out more about autism, and especially the training and benefits of specially trained dogs. Surely Nuala Gardner was 'chosen' for her role in life - what a wonderful woman!

Very informative. If anyone has a child with Autism ...
Very informative. If anyone has a child with Autism this is worth the money. The experience and knowledge that Miss Gardner experienced was vast. Following Dale throughout his growing up , and to where he is now, just gives everyone hope.

A book for all parents of autistic children.
This book reflects the experience of my friend who has 3 autistic spectrum children. They fairly recently bought a kitten who has helped one of the children enormously .If only they could bring themselves to get a dog too!

Something lacking
While I loved reading the first book, I did not really take to this one.It could have been due to the overuse of exclamation marks but also the fact that I was missing the touching and very personal account of "A Friend like Henry".The facts about the struggles people with ASD have to face with bureaucracy and the "system" in general were interesting but sadly something was missing to make this book as captivating as its predecessor.

Great
I was given first book 'a friend like henry' and once finished promptly ordered second on kindle. These books are very honestly written and straight to the point. Thank you Nuala and Dale for sharing your story. You have made me laugh and cry but most important of all given me an amazing insight into autism from a very personal point of view.

All Because of Henry
This is an excellent book.a). It gives the reader an insight into some of the larger problems that can arise with children with Autism.b). The patience and perseverance of a mother who did her very best for her children.c) The young man who never gave up and showed his determination.Definitely would recommend this book for families with Autistic children, but also for thosewho don't have to deal with the problem daily.
