great book when starting cruising in sailboats.
The thing you want to do is learn how to cruise in a small boat. learn to get everything in a proper position, well organize. then take all these skills and move them up to larger boats. It is very important to learn these necessary skills before you move to larger boats. If you don't you will screw up the balance and stability of a larger boat, and you won't even know YOU did it. you will think your boat sucks. You can introduce all sorts of stability issues in a sailboat that at least make it uncomfortable and even spooky. Every now and again screwing up can be dangerous. There are a number of excellent "small boat" crusing books. Study them and apply them to your larger boat. Study stability issues and apply it to your loading of the boat, and the supplies and anchors and chain you buy.

Great Book
I first read this book in my school library in the early 1970's. I found it again on amazon over 30 years later and it inspired me to get out and sail a small "heron' sailboat. This led on to small boat cruising and camping on board. Great escapism and so relaxing. Even overnight is an adventure.

An interesting book, but of its time.
An interesting book. The principles still hold true, but some of the more specific recommendations are no longer available

An excellent sailing book, many useful tips and good advice from experienced and knowledgeable sailors. Superb books for open boat cruisers.

OK but a bit outdated now
Good in parts but I thought lacking in hard practical tips. Lots of suggestions of boats that could be considered for cruising and things to look out for but then seems to say that you can use any boat you like...
