very fine tip and full serration
An actual knife user's review.First off, let me start by saying that you need to buy the sharp maker along with this knife due to the uniquely wild serration, theres no way to sharpen the knife without a ceramic sharpening system that will get into the serration and allow for it to be sharpened. moving forward, i broke this knife, but the amount of trouble i had to go through to actually break it is a true test to its durability. So what i did was i stuck the knife into the separation of a concrete sidewalk and hit it sideways with a hammer, now that would clearly break any knife cause you applying blunt force to the knife in a direction that it was not designed to go, with a heavy chunk of metal, first hit caused no damage besides scuffing up the scales, the knife wasn't off center the lock didn't disengage and the blade wasn't chipped or cracked, but scratched a little bit cause of the concrete. after 3 more hits the knife finally went a little off center however lock didn't disengage. the blade was pretty scratched with one small chip in the serration near the recurve the knife was still useable. i did however continue until the knife was finally broken. the knife took a lot of abuse and therefore it is to be concluded that its very solidly built. to all those people who complain about it being more of a weapon than anything else, i say this: if you actually use a knife and have used knives for a number of years, you'll clearly see a lot of utility applications in the shape of the blade. nail grooming, precise meat cutting, "tight-spot cutting" (smart) notching, pruning, rose budding, to name a few. each part of the serration can be a tool for a different task, just be creative.that is all

What is your life worth?
As a part of my occupation, I am forced to travel to countries that are less than stable and often dangerous. Currently I'm not assigned a firearm, but I am allowed to carry a knife. After reading many reviews I decided that this knife would suit my needs as an everyday concealed carry. I looked into the price and MSRP puts it in 2013 at $279. Luckily on Amazon it can be had for as little as $147. I paid $160 due to the original website not shipping to APO, but whatever. My life is worth at least $160, and upon delivery and inspection I firmly believe this knife has the ability to save my life. If you are in the market for a high quality knife to be used in the most dire of situations that has a slim profile, then Spyderco Civilian will suit your needs.Pros- Confidence inspiring- Slim Profile- Razor sharp from factory- Grippy G-10 handle is very grippy- long handle gives good gripCons- expensive (you can pay anywhere between $130 and $279 for this knife)- is not covered by warranty for everyday use (not that you should use this as a utility knife)- many people will find this to be too large for a folding knife- curved and serrated blade make this difficult to sharpen- You won't know how good this knife is until you use it to defend your life!Final Thoughts - Despite it's drawbacks I give this knife my highest recommendation as I carry it daily in Afghanistan and it makes me feel safe in dangerous situations.

BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT
Truly one of the most unique and recently historic folding knives that I can think of; there are plenty of fixed blades (especially Bowies) that my father • grandfathers + used as tools and weapons. The Tomahawks of Vietnam are incredible. The Boker and Cold Steel and Emerson.... excellent and perfect hard use instruments are all part of my collection and my history. The swords and the Damascus steel katanas; the brilliance of tactical pens and even keychain items that have transformed the old school genius of famous knife makers and gentlemen like AG Russel who I learned most everything I know during my many decades of collecting and dreaming of owning some day... this is the essence of my favorite gifts and treasures. Not to use them for the surreal abilities they are given. But the time and place and reason why as a massive Texas ex football dude... I was born to create and learn to appreciate the complete awesome design and functionality found in this relatively light and genius metal and learning the methods of best use. It’s not about the harm or unreal look and feel. It’s everything. Of course this is no EDC choice!!! It’s too perfect to even scratch. But the beauty is also this same amazing power that a trained martial artist or knife fighter has due to this knife. It’s been around for years. Not the newest auto or Powdered Metal Alloy. But Spyderco figured things out long ago. My carry knife is usually a (less than 3” delica). The police I know mainly carry the‘Police’ stainless steel version of the longer Endura. My doctor carries a keychain size Spyderco around the world. The point is that this is more than just a functioning perfect weapon. It’s treasure. If you ever need this knife for self defense. Just make sure you show it first. That should send all creeps running. Beautiful and perfect.
