easy to use, great innovative product

I have a Foodsaver vacuum seal machine and this is much less expensive than the Foodsaver roll material. This works out to a little over 8 cents a bag. The Foodsaver material is many times more expensive. The bags are gallon size and that is just right for half of a rack of baby back ribs and other items. You need to master the technique. You take the bag and remove the top sealing section so you just have a bag. You then snip either end of the material you removed and separate the light ridged material from the heavy ridged material. The later is too heavy to seal well when heated. After you have placed your item in the bag you take the light ridged strip (it's about 3/4 inch by 11 inches) and stick that down into the bag. How it lies in the bag is unimportant. You just need it to barely stick out of the bag. You then stick the open end of the bag into the vacuum sealer and on my machine the rest is automatic. It suctions all the air out and seals the bag about an inch from the open edge. You know have an inexpensive vacuum sealed bag for either sous vide or freezing. You wind up with two insert strips for every bag. I only use one and it works just fine. The light ridge is light enough to melt and seal properly but it also provides a channel for the air to be sucked out. There are some videos on YouTube that also show you how to do this

Glad Freezer Storage Bags... where to start... We all know GladLock has the blue and yellow make green when you slide your fingers across it, that's how you know it's sealed. But I accidentally cut my fingertips off when I was younger so that feature is difficult for me to use. So my favorite and by far the easiest for me to use has been the SLIDER bags with the white plastic slider on the top that does the work for you. These are NOT the slider ones, but the ones that turn green. We bought the Glad sandwich bags with the SLIDER instead... You'll see why below.These bags are a gallon in size and can hold about 5lbs of ground meat. They are freezer safe too. So what the wife and I do is buy a 5lb chub of ground meat on sale and break it down into 5 portions. We put each pound of meat into a sandwich bag and date it. Then we put all 5 into the freezer bag. The freezer bag never gets messy and since the dates are on the meat you can rotate stock inside the bag if another sale comes around. If you don't use freezer bags, you'll get freezer burn... So spend the extra $$$ and get these. You won't regret it. You don't just get 1, you get 36. If you use 3 per month, you have a years supply. Just so happens the way we use them makes them re-usable. :)

Hard to find

These bags are great. They're thick, durable, and pretty inexpensive (especially on subscribe & save). Added benefits are the white stripe where you can label the bag and the fact that they are freezer bags. This actually makes quite a difference, as non-freezer bags don't keep things as well when frozen (you get freezer burn).The double seal is strong too, just as strong as the "zipper" bags I would say. I've filled these up with chicken and marinade, turned it upside down and nothing fell out.

Recently, I've been researching the best ways to go about purchasing typical household items such as these bags. Historically, we have bought these in bulk at warehouse stores such as BJ's or Sam's Club. I'm now starting to steer away from this as long as I can get items of the same or better quality here on Amazon for a similar price. These glad bags are very sturdy and comparable to any of the other big brands out there. I really like the versatility of these with the freezer/storage capabilities. I found that when using subscribe & save, the Amazon price is cheaper than my local warehouse store. In addition, they arrive with free 2-day shipping so I don't have to go out and waste gas to pick them up. It's nice to be able to have a list of items that will arrive at recurring intervals so that I never run out. I check the subscribe & save once a month and if I don't need these bags or another item, I just push it off until the next month.

Way cheaper then going to the store and great product

My daycare requests that I put extra sets of clothes, crib sheets, spoons, etc in ziplock bags. These work perfectly for that purpose. The area to write my son's name is large and they are thick and sturdy. I also use these to store socks, hats, and other small baby items as my son outgrows them.I should also add, they store food like a champ too. They don't work as great as my seal-a-meal, but for a quick food storage solution, they work great.
