Don't think that the 4.0 is just a later version!
I bought a Teensy 4.0 for a project that called for a 3.6. I found when connecting it all up that I had run out of pins, so bought a 3.6. The 4.0 (revision D) audio board didn't work with it and it took me a while to find out why... The revision C (3.6) and the revision D (4.0) are actually wired differently. They look identical but the pinouts have been altered. Apparently adapter boards are available, but it is easier to make sure you have the right revision to start with.

Great option for arduino audio
Have used this board on several projects so far. The Teensy audio libraries are good, their web documentation is good, and the board works great. They sell the thumbwheel potentiometers on their web site, I haven't seen them on amazon. If you don't want to adjust the audio volume in software, that's your best option since they're pretty custom sized.
