I wanted to get better at tracking my sleep. I was sleeping 3 to 5 hours a day, no issues with it, except what all the doctors and health reports were telling me. So I decided to investigate myself. The ring is beautiful, fits well, and the titanium is light. I did scratch it a bit when I grab barbells at the gym, so I’d advise to not do that. Everything else, it’s amazing.Four days of battery life per charge, waterproof, and deeply discreet. You will see quite a bit of light in a totally dark space, but that part wasn’t so challenging for me.You will want to pay for the monthly subscription if you want the ring to do anything meaningful. You don’t have to pay, but the basic insights they give you without paying are useless. But the great thing is that you can pay for it with HSA dollars so pre-tax added to your health cost.The insights it had given me have changed the way I sleep and work out. There are lots of reading and blogs, deep dives into your data. Tracking all these metrics overtime is a great way to see what the daily impacts of what you do have on your body. And it’s great to bring to my doctors when I have issues to be able to show them the data directly.But the most important part was that once you see the data for yourself you start changing things without being prompted. Just one example, I have stopped drinking in the evenings because I realize that whenever I drank a beer close to bed time, I had terrible sleep. I was restless, defined as lots of mini wake ups during sleep, and that restless was imperceptible to me (I thought I slept soundly through the night).A great buy if you want to understand how your body responds to what you put it through.

After 5 months of use here are my conclusions:My guess is that for users that have significant sleep or cycle tracking issues, this might be a helpful product. However, as others have written in their reviews, this is not a good fitness tracker. This is unfortunate, because there are places where Oura has advertised itself as such. There are also really bad issues with syncing fitness data with other apps. The $6 a month service fee they charge is also something that I have concluded is not worth the price. Bottom line: If you're looking for a product that can track fitness, look elsewhere. If you are someone that has relatively good health and sleep, an Oura ring won't be useful. If you are looking to get a handle on sleep problems or with your menstrual cycle, your mileage may vary.More detailed thoughts:-THE OURA RING DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED: Since the Oura ring is an awful pedometer, calorie burn and all-around fitness tracker, you need to be able to incorporate fitness data from other apps (for example, Google Fit). When data syncs from Google Fit to Oura, it incorporates that data for around 3 days. For some mystifying reason that Oura cannot explain beyond "we're aware of the issue and working on it," Oura then discounts all of the synced fitness data (like, it still visible in the app, but the data doesn't count for any of its calculations). It then recalculates all of your "Readiness," "Activity," and "Resilience" data. In my case, it then goes from an 'optimum' score to a 'pay attention' score. Essentially, it renders 3 of Oura's 4 main tracking functions useless. This issue occurred for 3 of the 5 months I used the ring. As described earlier, Oura is aware of this issue, they've just done nothing to fix it.-They don't provide much, if any, context for various readings. The only advice they seem to offer for those actually looking to improve their sleep/health/fitness are pre-recorded 'guided meditations' from various providers. I did not find these to be particularly helpful.-They try to manufacture meaning from their readings with their weekly and monthly "trends." When you have a relatively consistent lifestyle, the "trends" are so small as to be meaningless. For example, "You're sleep is trending down" looks rather silly when the line graph "trend" is from 8.25 hrs to 8.2 hrs.-The kicker for me is that the tracker has now even stopped tracking my sleep accurately. It seems like they changed up their algorithms for or something. I have kepy the ring on the same finger, wore it in the same way, but last night's sleep tracking was wildly inaccurate. I woke up feeling refreshed and felt I had a normal sleep, but the Oura app reported that I slept terribly. It was 1/2 hour late detecting my sleep and when it did, it showed I was awake for over an hour longer than I actually was. This was the last straw for me, as the sleep tracking was Oura's only decent function.So, I'm taking the ring off now and cancelling the monthly membership. It's too bad, I had high hopes for this ring. It's why I shelled out $300, plus have been paying a $6 monthly fee. But, buyer beware, unless you really need help tracking your sleep (or possibly your menstrual cycle, I can't speak to that), don't buy an Oura ring. Look for a better product.
