Choose another laptop for gaming and no Ubuntu support
TL;DR: Avoid this laptop for gaming and Ubuntu compatibility. There are better gaming options available. Also, Dell's support for Linux is nonexistent.Gaming Performance: While this laptop can run Windows and some games, it falls short compared to alternatives like the Legion Pro. Other models offer superior GPUs, better touchpads, and enhanced structural stability, all within a similar price range. If gaming is a priority, I recommend exploring these options for better value.Ubuntu Compatibility: Despite Dell's claims of supporting Ubuntu on this device, my experience was frustrating. Installing Ubuntu voided my warranty because I installed Ubuntu, and Dell's support was unhelpful. They directed me to Ubuntu for assistance, but Ubuntu does not officially support this laptop, as confirmed by their certified hardware list (screenshot attached). Dell's own documentation indicates support for Ubuntu on this device, as shown in the manual and driver page (screenshots attached). This contradiction is concerning, and I advise against purchasing this laptop if you plan to use Linux.Customer Support: My interactions with Dell's customer service were disappointing. When I reached out to Dell for Linux support, I was told to contact Ubuntu, despite the fact that Ubuntu does not support this laptop according to their certified hardware page (screenshot attached) (notice G16 7630 with RTX 4070 missing). In one call, a representative seemed unfamiliar with Linux and even forwarded me to Lynx Subway Transit support, which was completely unrelated. I was passed around to multiple representatives, each providing inconsistent information, and ultimately, my issue was closed without resolution. This lack of coherent support raises serious concerns about Dell's reliability and commitment to customer service.Conclusion: Overall, if you're looking for a gaming laptop or need reliable support for Ubuntu, I recommend considering other brands. My experience with this laptop and Dell's customer service has led me to believe there are more trustworthy options available.
