Very helpful format
I am posting my review of Book 12 of the series.-----------------------------Format is very helpful. Same format is used for Books 9 - 12, which I am using to help my daughter, an incoming junior, enrich her vocabulary and prepare for the SAT.Each lesson starts with a word list with definitions and sentence examples. The list is followed by an exercise (Understanding Meanings) that requires readers to determine if a word is properly used, (Write C if the sentence is correct, if not, rewrite it so that the vocabulary word is used correctly.Ex.: An OBDURATE person is one who sticks stubbornly to a position. The next exercise is called Using Words - if the word fits, write it in the blank:Ex. OBDURATEa. In winter, heavy frosts make the soccer field too ___________________ to play on.b. Kumiko begged her parents to change their minds, but they were _____________________.c. Pulling out weeds was such ______________________ work that we soon quite. The next exercise, Word Study, requires readers to select a pair of antonyms or synonyms from a group of 4 words, for ex:secret obdurate silent covertNext: Images of Words - Identify which sentence or sentences suggest the given vocabulary word:Ex. UTOPIANa. My grandparents came to his country seeking a new lifeb. Our group is monitoring the water quality in the bay.c. One day poverty, crime, and disease will be banished from the earth. The next section is the Passage (at least one page) which presents an article using the words in the lesson, with questions after the passage to measure understanding. Ex. Why would it be inaccurate to say that Ellison presents a UTOPIAN view of African American life in Invisible Man?Lastly there is a small section called Fun & Fascinating Facts.Ex. A COVERT act is one that is hidden or kept secret. The term comes from the French verb couvrir, "to cover", Its antonym is overt. An OVERT act is one that is open for all to see. This word comes from the French ouvrir, "to open".For follow-up practice, or to make yourself custom tests spanning several lessons, go to vocabtest.com and click on the Wordly Wise links.http://www.vocabtest.com/wordly_wise_3000/book_twelve.php

Absolute best vocab system -- wish answers were in the back of the book or online for free
Love this company! We've gone through all their books from the beginning. Now we are in higher levels and the thing is-- where are the answers? As homeschoolers we need those answers. So thankful a reviewer gave link to online tests and activities. Just ordered 4 book set for 2 more students and scared the answers will no longer be available by the time they reach the last few books. The thing we like best about the books is that the lessons make sense, no shiny paper, words are actual words you would use in reality, stories are credible topics and not filled with trash talk like Crit Think books. I can leave the room and no worry about exposing my younger children to racey topics. If it's legitimate education you seek, this is it. And seriously there are very few acceptable alternatives.

Book was needed for High School 9th Grade English Course
This book meet our expectations. Amazon was the only site to let me know that this book was for the 9th Grade. I was only told by school to get Wordly Wise Series 3000. I purchase the Book 1 thinking this was the beginning book of a Series. Only Amazon (not Barnes and Noble) gave me a book description to let me know the previous book I got on Barnes and Noble site was incorrect. I needed to get book 9 (9th Grade). Thank you so much for providing a description of the book so I purchased the correct book and it arrived on time to start my daughter's English course at her high school.

Great for ESL students
I have been using WW for 7 years with my ESL students— mostly levels 4 through 9. When I retired from teaching public school, I began volunteering to teach English through my library’s literacy program.WW is my favorite resource. It’s a wonderful, comprehensive program that challenges my students.

Very enriching!
I used this series several years ago when I was homeschooling my kids. I liked the breakdown of lessons into parts that can be used for each day of the work week. It has also has great context stories for the vocabulary words along with trivia type excerpts. I was pleased to know that the private school my kids now attend also use this series. Well worth the money; great book.
