It’s so easy to put together!! Size is great!! I neede a large topper because my tree is huge!! Love it!!!!

You can hang the star from its cord, but be aware that you will have the unsightly battery box at the end of the cord. I wanted to hang it in an area of our house that has higher ceilings, but after I realized that I would be seeing the battery box, I didn't know how to attractively hang it. I'm not sure how I would secure it at the top of our tree. I have not tested it outside, but it's obvious that the star itself would be fine outdoors, at least if it's protected from ice. The battery box has a seal around it and looks like it would be waterproof. It's a pretty star and once you figure out where to put it and how to close it around the LEDs, it makes a nice decoration, but I have too many little issues with it to make me really excited about having it. It's just nice and not great.LIGHTAs seen in the product photos, the light is a plastic bulb-shaped container that houses an LED light string. The bulb shape has no functional use, it just holds the light string in place. Make sure that the seal in the bulb base is fully in place if you're putting the star outside.TIMER WORKS PROPERLY FOR NIGHTLY USEI have verified that the 6 hour on / 18 hour off timer works properly so if you set it to timer mode, it will come on each day at the same time. I have found that there is little point in just setting it to "on" if it is in a place that has any light during the day because the light is so dim that even in a room that is not well-lit, I can't tell whether it's on or off until I look down inside it to the bulb itself.MATERIALThe product description says that the star is made from PVC sheets. The sheets are perforated and glued together to form a star when opened. You can see the perforations in the PVC if you are looking at the star from a couple feet away. The PVC should hold up to outdoor use with no problem. Because of the way this was folded from a sheet of plastic, some of the star's spikes are rather flat. I was used to the old-fashioned Moravian stars where all points were at least close to the same shape so I hadn't expected this.SET UPThe star is a lot harder to unfold and secure than the videos show, especially when the LEDs are inside. There are clips that rotate around to hold the PVC sheet in place, but the sides of the clips are parallel and don't pinch the PVC. If the PVC doesn't want to stay together, the clips can rotate and release the inserted PVC side. I can get it to stay together, but I have to play with it a little to make sure it will stay.BONUS ORNAMENTI really wish they wouldn't have included this. It's pretty enough, but if I want something like that I'll just go to a dollar store and get a cheap ornament.

I have wanted a star for my porch for many years and just haven’t found the right one. This Christmas star is a great option and easy to store and put up. It is made out of plastic but folded much like a paper lantern. It is singularly hinged, meaning there is only one way to open the star and it opens fully. The small bulb is actually a led string wound up in a plastic lightbulb-looking cylinder. Unfortunately, this came broken on mine, although it doesn’t appear to be a fault of the packaging, as it was tidily packaged and received. Despite the cracked plastic on the bulb the star wasn’t affected and I was able to still use it as intended. It takes 3 unincluded AA batteries and the battery pack has a Timer/On/Off button.I was worried it would be dim, but it lights up nicely, even visible in the daytime, with a warm white glow.Overall this is an easy 5-star item, aside from receiving it partially broken, which is why I removed one star. It also came with a small paper tree that folded out into an ornament with magnets to allow it to be closed and stored as well. Be sure to keep the box to store the star in between seasons!

This Moravian star is much nicer than the one I bought last year that was only made of paper. This one is more of a flexible plastic so I expect it will be more durable. As an added bonus the star came with a tiny tree for an extra decoration. All in all I'm looking forward to the holiday so I can put the star on my treetop!

Close up, not as good. To make this collapsable they had to make some compromises on the spikes. In the picture above, you can see that the spikes are not necessarily "whole", some have very visible folds in them. Again though, from a distance, this is not as noticeable.I grew up attending a Moravian Church, this does bring back memories. I'll just have to break out the beeswax candles and make a sugar cake to get the entire effect :)At a little less than $20, this is a pretty good value. I don't think it would last very long outside - it feels more like a vinyl than PVC, it is fairly thin and very flexible. I'll be having mine indoors where I can enjoy the view. I like that it is battery operated with 6 hours on, 18 hours off. I can set it once to come on at 5pm and it'll shut itself off at the end of the night.
