BELL 4Forty MIPS MTB Helmet

My husband has been on one long bike ride in this helmet and had nothing but praise for it. Comfortable, well made and stayed in place. Can recommend.

Helmet arrived and fits pretty much perfectly out the box. Really comfortable and looks to be of good quality, including the mips system. The visor does have a gap between it and the helmet but in some ways this is probably a good design decision. It’s adjustable in every respect.

First impressions- it’s a fairly dull looking helmet. A small Bell logo at the front and a yellow MIPS sticker are the only embellishments to note.It’s a snug fit with plenty of adjustment possible via the retaining straps And the internal frame. Initially i thought the frame was flimsy but this is part of the Mips system which allows some movement upon impact, to add protection to your head.It’s not as bulky as the helmet i got before it and returned but it is more substantial and has more protection than the road helmet i have - a good thing.The visor isn’t what i hoped for. It doesn’t go as low as expected and i don’t really see the point of it being adjustable upwards. I would have preferred to see it move down more to protect against low sun. It also doesn’t sit flat unless adjusted and it’s flimsy with a gap.The fit was good and as advertised. My 59cm head fits snugly and there’s room for a thin beanie in winter.Plenty of cooling vents so should be ok in summer.At less than 60 quid, it’s a decent price for a proper helmet. Only loses a star for the visor.

Nice helmets, like the styling and the comfort and in fact now don't mind wearing a helmet.So much better than my old one, it's light, strong, cool and and great adjustment system.Definitely worth the money and also Mips technology for better safety.

Very comfortable to wear, fitting system is great, can tighten or loosen for comfort and safety. Easy to clean, nice design, hard wearing

Bought a medium as that was the recommended size for my head (56cm) as guide says it fits 55-59 but could’ve gone for a large. It’s a nice snug fit and looks great on but double check your head size as I’s said this is smaller than stated.

Wenn man, wie ich, einen großen Kopf hat ca. 63-64 cm, ist das Eis jedoch ziemlich dünn, wenn man einen passenden Helm sucht. Bell bietet u.a. eine Option mit diesem Stück. Als Alternative hatte ich noch den Alpina Mythos 3.0. Aufgrund des für mich schöneren Designs, und der Farbzusammenstellung habe ich mich für den Bell entschieden. Die Passform ist klasse. Nichts scheint zu drücken und somit ist er recht bequem. Das einzige was mich stört ist der Umstand, dass es keinen Insektenschutz gibt. Sehr löblich ist bei dem Helm, dass die Polster nicht geklebt sondern mit einem Klettverschluss angebracht sind. Ich habe nun die Polster weggemacht und ein dunkles Fensterfliegengitter zurechtgeschnitten und hineingelegt. Darauf dann wieder die Polster "geklemmt". Mit relativ geringen Mitteln habe ich somit einen Insektenschutz gebastelt. An meinem alten Casco-Helm hatte ich mir so ebenfalls geholfen und dies war zudem dauerhaft haltbar. Hätte dies nicht geklappt, hätte ich mit dem Alpinahelm mein Glück versucht. Der hat zwar ein Fliegengitter, allerdings auch nur zentral in der Mitte und nicht an der Seite. Natürlich kommt es nicht oft vor (ich hatte es bislang nur einmal), dass sich eine fliegendes Insekt im Helm verirrt. Auszuschließen ist es aber nicht und bei voller Fahrt ist es auch nicht angenehm, erst recht, wenn sich das Tierchen panisch entschließt zuzustechen. Im Grunde sind es nur wenige Cent, welche der Helm bei der Produktion teurer würde, wenn man ein solches Insektennetz gleich einbringen würde. Schade, dass die meisten Hersteller darauf verzichten.

Ich bin aber dann gerade noch rechtzeitig draufgekommen, dass man innen den Sitz der Schale nach vorne und hinten verstellen kann. Als ich das dann endlich auch in die richtige Richtung geschoben hatte (mit 2 gebrochenen Fingernägeln) habe ich auch was gesehen und der obere Rand ist nicht mehr auf die Sonnenbrille geknallt.Genial ist auch die Schweißabführung - irgendwie schaffen die es, dass einem die Suppe nicht über die Augenbrauen in die Augen rinnt sondern es gibt eine Stelle über der Nase wo's dann tropft. Das ist zwar bei langen Anstiegen ähnlich nervtötend wie die kreisenden Fliegen auf Augenhöhe aber man sieht wenigstens was und es brennt nicht.Und noch ein letzter Punkt (ist ja erst mein fünfter oder sechster Helm): die verstellbare Sonnnenblende ist Gold wert!

Guter Sitz, hab natürlich die Schutzfunktion noch nicht testen müssen.
