OUTDOOR ELEMENT The Firebiner A Fire-Starting, Multi-Tool, Every-Day-Carry, Survival Carabiner

My wife got this for me as a gift for Christmas. I do like it - it's an attractive piece of gear with some cool factor. It weighs 1.1oz which isn't huge but ounces add up and if you're going ultralight a soft shackle is probably more useful. If you aren't going ultralight, why not carry an actual (ideally locking) carabiner? This one has a strong steel wire gate, but it just rests against a U-shaped depression - there's no "ledge" to prevent it from stretching under load.In terms of functions, it has two small holes on one end for hanging things but better plan to use bank line or similar because they're just a bit too small to easily thread 550 paracord through them. It has a fire sparker which is pretty neat, but instead of taking standard lighter flints it uses some type of very thin rod-shaped flint. It does come with two replacements but so far I haven't figured out where you'd get more.Moving around the curve, it has a blade for cutting things but it's embedded in a V-shaped notch for safety. 550 does just fit in there but not with enough room for any type of slicing action, so it's tricky to cut things with it. I suppose it would cut seat belts fine if you wanted something for your car. And finally, it has a flat head screwdriver... but blade is too broad to be used for small tasks while being too shallow/short to be used on bigger screws.So if you wouldn't use it for lightweight backpacking, full-gear camping, EDC multi-tool replacement, or any of that, what is it good for? Well, it definitely makes a cool-looking (if big) keychain. And it might be a nice thing to keep in an emergency toolkit in a car... It's definitely attractive, just... not that useful.

Edited:The company contacted me and sent a replacement pretty quickly. So far, so good! We'll see if this knife holds up.I bought this for my husband. The fire starter part is pretty cool, but unfortunately, the utility knife part just fell off and we can't find it anywhere. That seems pretty useless if it'd just fall out like that. I can't imagine trying to use it on something if it isn't properly attached in the first place.

My latch doesn't have enough spring to keep it shut after just a few short months of light use as a keyring.Very low quality for $15, should be like a $5 novelty trinket.

I should have looked more closely at the description. The firestarter was what I was most interested in, but it is just a thumb wheel sparking device. You would need to have very dry, flammable tinder for this to get it going. Making this one a last resort starter in my bugout box. Was hoping for more, but for the price it's just ok. If you are looking fir something that creates a flame, continue looking.

A little smaller than expected, but decent enough. Pretty good for starting campfires from scratch, though not as easy to use as a full size ferrocerium rod (gives less sparks; you'll need very light and dry tinder). Would have been nice if the flint wheel was bi-directional, it only spits out sparks on the bottom. Belt cutter is nice and sharp, has a replaceable blade. Gate is very loose, could be a lot stiffer; it's easy for the carabiner to slip off by accident. The screw holding the belt cutter blade was also the wrong size and completely stripped; I had to replace it. Luckily I have a screw removal tools.

This little guy is AWESOME. It took me a while to get a solid spark to start a fire as i have only used big honking rods in the past. Make sure you test and know how to use it before heading out innawoods. My thumb was pretty sore trying to get it the first go around. Mind you i was using super dry tinder/bark.Its not the easiest firestarter if you only have a few sticks but its SUUUPER handy once you get it down. The fact that its also a light carabiner to hang stuff is also a plus its like you cannot have enough. You also get a few replacement rods too. Nice.I think for general fire making purposes it can be a struggle unless you are using like pyroputty or something(or are like a wilderness bad ass), but if we are talking lighting a stove its perfect size and easy peasy. Its a nice secondary piece to add to the tool kit. I dont think i would use it as my primary fire starter.

It does not feel cheap, it is a solid design. You can clip it to one of your front belt loops on your jeans and your shirt hides it. In this position, it moves when you sit down without binding and will not snag things like it might if clipped to your side. Just for kicks I tried it on a cotton ball just to see how it works and It lit on the first try. I consider it part of my EDC now and will be showing it off to people from time to time.

Not good as a keychain - did not try the fire-starting feature. My keys fell out when I was holding something and the same time pressing this keychain against it - so no brainer that this is not safe to use as a keychain, would not imagine using this as a carabiner to hold something to safe your life.

見た目と細かいギミックに惚れて購入。糸や細い紐を切るカッターは服なんかを買ったあと値札を切るのに便利です。栓抜きは使ってないけど問題なく使えそう。マイナスドライバーはけっこう大きいので使えないネジが多いかもしれない。フリントライターはキャンプ時にガスストーブに火をつけるのに使えるけど、これだけで麻縄とかに着火しようとするとすぐに石がなくなります。一般的なzippo用の石は太くて使えないし、専用品も別売りされていないようなので、付属の石を使い切ったら買い直すしかないのかもしれない。そこだけが残念なので星マイナス1

使えない事はないけど10回ぐらいそれで火を起こして使ったら車輪が壊れるもろいねこれだったらちゃんとした火打ち石的なやつ買った方がいいよ。YouTubeでみて買ったんだけど、ネタ要素はあるけど実用性に欠けるね結論、長く使いたかったら違うやつ買ったほうがいいよ。

毎回キャンプに行くときに持っていってます。今までマグネシウムなどを削るファイアースターターを使っていたのですが、今回このデザインが気に入り購入しました。zippoの火打石みたいな感じで火花がでます。非常に簡単で使い勝手がいいです。麻縄と併用して使うとすぐに着火できるのでアウトドアで非常に役立ちます。
