Monologues for Teens: 60 Original Monologues to Stand Out, Inspire, and Shine (The Young Actor Series)

Don't judge the book by its cover...
When researching monologues for young actors (my daughter is 13), I originally skipped this one as it looked like a book from the 70s based on the - may I say boring and strangely yellow - cover. However, after having bought one monologue book for young actors that turned out to be a bit too easy, we dove deeper into reviews and decided to give this one a try. My daughter really likes it. Most of the monologues are quizzical / mini-rants and she was looking for more funny ones, but in general really likes the material. They give the actor opportunities to display different kinds of emotion as well. At about or above a page a piece, they are a good length.

Dull
I bought this book for my 14 y/o son after reading the great reviews. It is unfortunate that, in general, there is such a limited pool of acceptable monologues for this age group. The ones offered in this book are fine, but feel two dimensional at best. A monologue that is age appropriate (no inappropriate language or distasteful subject matter) AND ones that offer range for pre-teens and teens is nearly impossible to find anywhere. These monologues felt flat and lacking in range for kids to try to pick up on varying emotions. None of these could be construed as comedic. We even read through them using our own crazy twists to make believe that the subject matter was in fact meant to be funny, but that really just comes off as a crazy person misreading a script. Hey at least we had fun trying, but don't purchase this book if you are looking specifically for pieces that will inspire and provide layers-they are not there.

As good as it gets
This one is as good as it gets. It's very difficult to something strong and effective for this age range, but this is a unique, one-of-a-kind book that is not only effective for aspiring actors, but also gives them solid, inspiring messages to think about wrapped up nicely in a series of monologues and engaging stories that unfold naturally. I think many of the selections in this book are also good choices for adult actors. There's a very nice selection and a wide variety to choose from here. They have so much depth too ... I know adult actors will find something good here too.Very well written, and even the introduction and foreword give the readers (teen and adult) plenty of good information too.

Excellent material and applicable to a wider age range than just teenagers
I believe this book is applicable to a much wider age range than just teenagers. There are such great positive messages and imagery in this book that will be beneficial in myriad ways to actors of all ages. Adults, especially, will find good, solid material here (with depth) they can study for monologues, particularly dramatic monologues.I teach acting and drama for kids and teenagers in the public school system, and believe this is just about the best collection of monologues I have ever found for my young students. I can't speak highly enough about this one. My students love it too. We use it for classroom practice, and my teenage students have also started using monologues from this collection for their college theater program auditions.

They absolutely love the monologues
I got this book for my two nieces who are interested in acting. They absolutely love the monologues. They had so much fun performing "Little Green Men" one of the monologues in the book in class that they got cast in a school play! Thank you Mr. Mike Kimmel with an outstanding book of monologues for teens. We look forward to more of your writing that comes straight from the heart.

All of Mike Kimmel’s books are awesome..
All of Mike Kimmel’s books are awesome... this latest is no exception. The monologues are not only perfect for teens but are also thought-provoking and positive. My son is 18 and even he is able to use and learn from them. I recommend this and Mr. Kimmel’s books highly.

The monologues are all different
This is a great book for teenagers who are interested in the stage! It doesn't matter if they just like to act as a hobby or if they want to pursue an acting career - they will appreciate this book. The monologues are all different. Some are humorous, some are inspiring, and some are poignant. The monologues are concise (one page long) so they are manageable for teens. I bought one for our kids to share, and another as a gift for their friend. Thumbs up all around since all the kids love this book! It makes a great gift!

Amazing, transformative book for young actors
This is an amazing collection of monologue choices for young actors. I've been searching for monologues to coach my teenage daughter with, and these really seem to fit the teenage mindset and experience nicely. I especially like the motivational and positive mindset aspects to the monologues in this collection. For this mom, it's a nice change from the other material we've tried previously. Written to "StandOut, Inspire, and Shine" is the cover description in the subtitle, and I would add "Uplifting" to describe this one too.
