Just took a tape measure to it—5 inches depth.

Q: Should the water pump just be left on?

Dear customer, Thank you for asking. The pump will run on its default mode (30mins-on-and-30mins-off-cycle) . We suggest that you could keep the water pump working every day for circulating the water flow and adding oxygen. If you don't want to hear the sound of water pump at night, just short-press the water pump button, the water pump will go to sleep for the next 10 hours. Finally it follow the cycle after 10 hours automatically. Q: Can you grow greens and strawberries in the same hydroponic garden?

I don't see why you can't. They all use the same nutrients that came with your unit. I personally would keep veggies on one side of the unit and fruits on the other. Especially when they start growing. Keep in mind the space and full size of whatever you're growing.

Q: What is the average power consumption (in watts) per year of continual use?

Assuming that both water pumps and grow lamps are operating 24/7. An ordinary 12 volt NFT water pump is rated at 22 watts while grow lamps are rated at 32 watts. This totals to 55 watts. This multiplied by 720 hours (1 month) which results in 39600 watt-hours or 39.6kWh.
