loud full flush
It looks great, very high to sit on. I am 5'8" and my feet barely touch the floor. The flush is very loud and uses a lot of water.

Finally - a great toilet
I've gone through about 4 of these low flush toilets foisted on us by the jerks in congress. My last one was a Toto - that started OK but went down hill in a hurry. They don't use much water per flush - but you need to flush 10 times per load. Tried super cleaning and everything imaginable. Finally, in a house with three toilets, all we could use was an old fashioned 5 gallon tank gravity job, which meant walking to the other end of the house in the middle of the nite to do your business.I noticed some of these pressure toilets at places like doctor and dentist offices. I started paying attention to the best ones and noting the brands and model numbers. Installed fine and works great - after you get used to the Big Bang flush! I think it would flush a VW Beetle. I waited about a year to post a review - I'm not one of these "it works great" an hour after opening the box type guys. I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It hasn't. Still works great. Highly recommended. What a pleasure to use my own toilet at night!!!

I ordered two- one was great, the other? …oh the humanity!
UPS delivered these two Kohler 3493-96 toilets, not my usual Amazon guy. I was a little concerned when Mr. UPS wrestled the box out of the big brown truck and let it hit both the bumper and the ground, way too hard for my liking. “These are heavy… what’s in them” he asked. He looked a little concerned with I told him toilets and he was right to be worried. The picture tells the story- broken beyond repair so back it is going. The intact toilet, on the other hand went in without a hitch and worked the first time I dropped the lever. Fantastic! Order without delay as I have done again. The flush is not for the faint of heart- it explodes like a Saturn rocket lifting off the Cape Canaveral pad but moments later, silence again. Here is what I learned- make sure your toilet water connector is 2 inches longer that what’s on there now if you are replacing a standard height toilet. That caused me a trip to the hardware store. Also, the Kohler model 3493-96 might sound like a sexy name to the marketing group but in reality I believe it’s really the Highliner Classic, but with the power flush and 1.6 gallon per flush event. Also, the tank can be a challenge. I’m used to dropping the bolts through the bottom of the tank, then through the commode and on goes the washer and nut a moment later. This is different. The tank houses the power flush unit so you cannot get to the where the bolts go. However, the factory installs those bolts for you. The bolts seemed a little short to me but put a little pressure on the tank you can get the brass nuts started and then tightened down. All in all, number 3493-96 is worthy of my 5 star review.

Great Flush But Needs A Simple Fix
After reading the reviews we knew others had issues with the flush lever, but we decided to take a chance because the toilet otherwise sounded perfect. So we purchased it and cross our fingers! Sure enough the toilet was great, the flush is amazing. Love it! But after a few weeks, don’t you know it…flush lever started to unlatch. Sigh. Really Kohler? The same complaint from numerous buyers over this many years and you still haven’t fixed the problem?? So after a few weeks of taking the tank cover off and re latching the lever, I decided to go back and re-read the solution tips presented here. Thank you to the buyer who suggested the 1/4 inch (bore) Shaft Collar. As a woman, I had no idea what that was or how it worked, but I googled it and found a very handy video. I ordered the Shaft Collar on Amazon. Got the wrong size at 1st. Make sure you get a 1/4 size bore and not width (see my image For the correct one). Finally got the right size and easily put it on myself! Problem solved. Come on Kohler, how hard is it to just install one of these collars on each toilet?! So I took away one star for this, because otherwise this is an excellent toilet. The flush is amazing. Get it, but get yourself a Shaft Collar too!Update: after 4 months we started getting a major leak from the tank whenever we flush. Water was gushing out of the back of tank. We were besides ourselves thinking we had to get a new toilet! But an Amazon customer came to our rescue again! Thank you S. Kulkarni! I posted the issue under questions and they returned a fix: tighten the screws under the tank!. Sure enough they were loose and this quick fix saved us some big headaches. Taking another star away tho for these 2 issues within 4 months!

Great flush and put the plunger away.
Excellent toilet for poor drainage areas. I live in south Florida... which is very flat. Many people do not realize but the county sewage system requires frequent pumping stations to keep the sewage moving. After the last big hurricane, when the pumping stations stopped for a bit, many toilets began to seriously back up and sewage was stuck... the federal emergency management agency had to provide generators to keep the sewage pumps running. That said, under normal circumstances normal flushing toilets may back up and not flow quickly - which can cause some embarrassments in a guest bathroom - and put you to work with a plunger. This toilet on the other hand provides such force that there is no need for any plunger - any longer. Flush and its gone - goodbye. Have had this for a year in the guest bath and its been working great. Plan to put two more in the other bathrooms. May be more expensive - but you get what you pay for - and if you live in a area such as I do, and don't mind the plunger detail... than for a few hundred dollars less you can get a decent toilet I'm sure.
