Jackie DeShannon is not only a pioneering female singer-songwriter, she is also an amazing musical chameleon over her long, wonderfully versatile career. These early 1960s recordings for Liberty Records depict Jackie is rousing rhythm and blues settings produced mostly by Clyde Otis.She tackles several songs strongly associated with Ray Charles at the time and gives them strong feminine interpretations that are powerful and compelling.Jackie is also heard singing some of her own compositions that are previously unreleased except for a few that are presented in stereo for the first time. This is a very fine and historical project.
