Amazing Jellies: Jewels of the Sea
J**.
Wonderful pictures of jellyfish along with great information.
My grandson was stung by a jellyfish while on vacation this summer. Once a person has come into contact with an animal, especially in a painful way, it's only natural that they will want to know more about it. This book will help my grandson learn more about these amazing creatures. Here are the topics that are covered in the book: - Jelly forms - How jellies work - Getting around - How do jellies sense their world? - The jelly life cycle - Stinging - Prevention and treatment - What's for dinner? (What jellies eat) - Who eats sea jellies? - Deepsea jellies - The future of jellies - Jellies and the environmentThere is also a resource section in the back which lists books for further reading as well as jellyfish websites. All of that information plus gorgeous pictures on nearly every page makes this a must-have book for anyone interested in jellyfish. It's a small book both in page length (48 pages) and in dimensions (just a tad over 6" x 6"), but there's nothing small about the content. To go along with the book, I also bought a toy jellyfish - Ooey Gooey Jellyfish - Varying Colors - for my grandson. I recommend both as a gift for anyone who has been stung by a jellyfish.

Beautiful pictures and enough info for kids, or for doing preliminary research
I have recently begun to study jellyfish, at this point more interested in photographs and brief descriptions rather than full pages of scientific data. My study is writer-related rather than scientifically related, so 'Amazing Jellies' was perfect for my goal. It is also nice if you are looking for a special jelly book for a school age child with advanced reading skills. The pictures are plentiful and exceptionally good. The brief information provided covers types of jellies, the parts of the jellyfish, jelly forms, their lifecycles, how they move around, and what they eat (not to mention what eats them). The font is a bit small for the younger grade-school set, and the longer words are not 'played down' so some of the reading could be difficult for the younguns. The book itself is small, only six-by-six inches, so it shouldn't be confused with a coffee-table book.If you are looking for a pretty, inexpensive beginning point for information on jellyfish, this book is a nice place to start. Enjoy!

Great for interested kids!
My son was VERY interested in jellies after seeing their exhibit at the Baltimore Aquarium. This book provided him with lots of pictures & information. I will tell you this book is small in size though, so there are no large pictures. It is very portable & informative.

Small book with lots of information
The book has great photographs and interesting information about these beautiful creatures. It surprised me that it's size is small, it fits perfectly in a handbag. My eight year old loves to read it and takes it along.

My children love ocean animals. They were surprised to learn about the different varieties of jelly fish. The photographs are very nice.

Okay
Thought it would have more beautiful photos in it for my summer coffee table. It ended up being placed on a book shelf, instead.

Jellyfish book, not just for kids!
If you are just a tidbit fascinated by jellyfish and companions, buy this book!I have been mesmerized by them for years, but found only kids books. This book is great for both grownups and a bit older kids who can read somehow fluently. It features many stunning photographs, in addition there are great information about the biology and sociology of these creatures in an easy language. It's a small book, so if you want to read something heavy and scientic about jellyfishes, this is not for you. If you want a peek into their fascinated looks and lives, this is a gem! It has enough photos to interest a child who cannot read also!

Less variety and pictures than hoped
Quite old fashioned style, less jellies and pictures than I hoped, but some informative diagrams.

Great book
My 11 year old granddaughter gave it the thumbs up. Not quite as substantial as I thought it would be, but she loved it.
