experienced cyclist - shimano octalink v1 bb
Bought this for my 1999 cannondale caad3 r1000 because this supercedes the ultegra bd6500 part number.Works great. Feels smoother and stronger than the original. It was removed after squeaking from a rain ride and is still usable. Saving it with the original wheel set. Have put 850 miles on the new bearing. Squeak free, stays firm for it's design era. Was listed to replace the early dura-ace bearings as well, however I did find a dura-ace replacement at double the cost. This was more economical at the time and is doing a fine job. For a regular rider and not a track bike, the 105 octalink bearing works flawlessly. Will last a long time with proper care.

Not Japanese
The picture shown here is of a BB made in Japan. However, the one I received was made in Singapore. Big let down!If you know bikes you would welcome parts made in Japan, Taiwan, Italy, France, USA. Singapore is not a part of that elite group.Anyway, we will see how well it lasts!

Quick and Painless
I bought this bottom bracket to replace a more finicky Dura Ace 7700 one. Even though this one is half the price I like it better. It has sealed cartridge bearings and is very easy to install correctly. Just make sure you install it with a torque wrench to the recommended 50-70Nm. So far it's super smooth and I like it a lot.

Five Stars
Good replacement for dura ace 7700 model. Easier to find and 1/2 the price.

Why is so many slamming the plastic support?
I'm replacing my BB LB26 in a Gary Fisher Kaitai Marlin. All the negative reviews on this complain about the plastic right-side BB support. It's just there as a support, doesn't hold anything in. The plastic material is deep enough and more than strong enough to handle the job. The left side holds it in and has plenty of strength for the job. You could buy the UN55, but a metal threaded though being better, really doesn't make this one a piece of junk like so many said. My Fisher has the plastic and it's held up just fine. Just don't slam a product if you don't understand the engineering of it!

Great
Very impressed. I use Dura-Ace 7710 on two track bikes. and I recently built up an aluminum road frame using the 7701 crankset. The "road" bottom bracket intended for that crank is the 7700. It's very light for a BB from that era and also finicky and extremely delicate. (Even with right tool and experience, you almost can't tighten and adjust it properly without damaging the soft alloy on the cups.) The 105 on the other hand requires NO adjustment, no lock-ring spanner, has steel threads and sealed/contained bearings. The 105 is on the face of it, the 7710 TRACK RACING bottom bracket with a black spindle about $100 less. FYI, 105, Ultegra 6600, Dura-Ace 7710, 7700 and 7701 are ALL Octalink V1 available with a 109.5 MM spindle and therefore interchangeable. Version 2 seen on Deore et al has deeper splines on the spindle and the splines are spaced differently i.e., it WILL wreck the alloy crank arm if you mismatch V1 and V2. The Ultegra Octalink V1 BB is similar to the 105 but for some the reason they're very rare. This is available in English and Italian threads - another plus if you're using Dura-Ace on a 70MM shell.
