Absolutely delicious, tastes exactly like the flavor in miso soup. Beware that it (pouch) smells fishy but that's I think normal. Also don't be fooled by the light color of the broth, I reccomend that you taste it before adding another. I was expecting a really golden color but the taste will be strong even if the broth is light...my broth barely tinted the water but was full of flavor. Also enjoyed that there was a booklet of recipes included.

I found this to be a very pleasant "mild" dashi to my Western Tastes -- not nearly as fishy as Dashi made directly from Kombu and Dried Bonito Flakes using a recipe from the Morimoto cookbook. I'm happy to drink this "straight" as a broth, for example.

Takes a little bit more time than the powder but this this much better quality, no preservatives and superior flavor. Works great for at home miso.

Having arrived just yesterday, I was eager to try this out as I have not had a good source of ingredients to make a hondashi base. So naturally, I tried it as soon as I could. It was exceptionally easy to use and the instructions were clear. The broth it made was clear, and very full of flavor. Honestly, you could eat it by itself. It makes the perfect base for a soup. I also used it to make rice for onigiri, and it gave the rice a beautiful flavor. It isn't overpowering, but it is very flavorful, and very quick to make a stock with. No mess and no fuss. It really is great. I am definitely going to be ordering more in the future, because I know I will be using this often. If you love Japanese soups and ramen, I cannot recommend this enough. It is absolutely wonderful.Edit: I have ordered this a few times now, and the quality has stayed consistent. I use it it as a base for so many soups, and highly recommend the hikari miso paste with it for restaurant quality miso soup.

Taste great! Works perfect for the recipes this both is called for. Resealable bag functions well. The pouch method, rather then straight powder, gives the broth a clean style.Only down side is the price, it's high. However, that's the price for convenience. As the only other place I can go to buy this is about 30 miles away, though it cost half the price, I'm saving in gas and travel buying it here. I'm sure this may be the case for others shopping online for this item.Unless I happen to be around the area I can physically buy it in, and I actually need it, I would buy this item again for sure.

The liberating effect of this exquisite broth over the usual chicken/beef/vegetable ones is both seductive and satisfying. The packets are easy to use and remove as required, resembling teabags. At present I have only used the packets for broth, but I am eager to try the 'sprinkle on' recipes from the included booklet. You will not be disappointed by the flavor of this dashi.

I use this broth base with my Miracle Noodles and it's great! Creates a delicious, rich broth--I add freshly diced green onions and cilantro to complete the flavor profile. Definitely recommend, especially if you eat Miracle Noodles regularly to satisfy your cravings for carbs. I am definitely purchasing again!

I bought this along with miso paste to make miso soup. It's a little pricey for what you get; however, it's more convenient than driving a distance to visit an Asian grocery store. It creates a very nice, smooth soup base and worked wonderfully with a few teaspoons of miso paste!
