R Markdown: The Definitive Guide (Chapman & Hall/CRC The R Series)

Yes this book is online, but I don't mind supporting the author and I really like having a paper copy handy.I wanted to use R objects from a different session in Markdown, which is normally a no-no. One little tip explained how to get around this limitation and suddenly R Markdown became much more useful.I want to do my wrangling in on file, my exploratory analysis in another and my Markdown in another, while all sharing the same objects. Of course when I reopen the file I can rerun everything just as easily as recompiling the Markdown. I find this way that the doc is easier to write because there are not massive code blocks (that never get echo'd) mixed in. Just my workflow....The book itself is pretty good but I would like to see every parameter documented.All in all worth the price.

I agree with the reviewer who stated that this was more of a reference than a tutorial. I immediately ran into trouble when I tried to run my first program. Recommend you look on YouTube for tutorials to get started.

An excellent book for one intending to learn and master reproducible research.

This isn't the book I was expecting. As a newcomer to RMarkdown, I wanted something that would provide "a definitive guide" to using the system, especially when incorporating R code chunks into a Markdown document. I don't care if AirBnB (or any of the other example entities described), uses RMarkdown; I just wanted to see how the system might be applied beyond the "Hello, world" level. Perhaps I expected too much, but I became annoyed with the several "if you want to understand X, see this section of my other book Y" suggestions that come up in the "Basics" chapter. Rather than being directed to other places I was looking for that information in THIS book, but unfortunately it is not to be found. I strongly recommend that prospective buyers of this volume check out the online version before ordering.

This book details the amazing capabilities of the R markdown format. Exports include pdf, tex, html: it's easy to share & communicate work/scripts on online, book, slides, ... all kinds of supports. Amazing. I basically do all my work (teaching & research) in RStudio now.To support and thank the authors, I also bought the books on blogdown (more focused on online/html exports) and bookdown (more focused on pdf/tex for paper publishing).I wish a similar book existed for the Shiny framework...

you can be expert in building great packages but so bad teacher / writer... this book is the perfect illustration... it is not a guide but just introduction !
