Fundamentals of Physics, 6th Edition

If you are seeking a calculus based physics text, this may be the book for you. The author has a very entertaining way of presenting the material and creating examples. The problems covered in each section are increasingly difficult. So far, I have not been able to work all of the odd numbered problems (answers included) in any of the later chapters of the text, but I still feel that I am mastering the basics of the material. The problems prevent the learner from falling into the typical physics trap of plugging numbers into a formula without any understanding of the material. I am sure that I will be referring to this text frequently in the future.

I liked the fact that it covers almost every area of physics I could want to work on, except for quantum mechanics. The coverage of special relativity was light. There was one chapter (out of dozens) where the exercises seemed to be screwed up. The answers in the back of the book sometimes gave just a numerical value, and that was sometimes only given to one or two decimal places.

The required text in my college physics class was extremely unclear, so I asked my professor what his favorite text was. He told me that in over 30 years of teaching physics at college he likes this one and the first edition of this text the best. He calls it the bible of physics, and still turns to it to prepare for lectures. I picked it up here on amazon for $1, and absolutely love it. It is clear, concise, and derives everything. I, and my awesome professor, highly recommend this text as a suppliment to whatever unclear muddled up text your course requires.

Great condition

I used this as a text book for three semesters of University education. Some chapters are fine and quite readable, and others are random and completely lack organization. Some chapters take one point and beat it into the ground with a large baseball bat made out of lead, others mention something once and assume you understand it completely.The examples are fair but compared to some of the chapter end questions you'd scarcely believe that they came from the same book, the difficulty varies greatly. As for the explanations even the best in this book I did not find as well stated or helpful to understanding as those found in Tipler's "Physics for Scientists and Engineers." Buy this book if you are taking a class and they require you to use it, buy it not if you are trying to learn physics on your own, as I doubt it will help you very much unless you already know it.

Best Physics book, great condition. I haven't read this since I had the 1st edition in college which was lost in a flood. This is the 5th edition including new discoveries in atomic and solid state Physics. This is a great way to learn the new concepts and review the updates on those concepts previously learned.

In the end, every other physics textbook starts off by saying how its just as good, or even better, than Haliday and Resnick. But they aren't. There is one huge flaw in the fifth edition of the series and that is its use of the Stirling cycle and no mention of the Carnot cycle.

This is an outstanding Calculus-based Physics textbook. I reference it often when the book from school isn't as clear as I'd like it to be.

Damit Lernen kann man zwar nicht und die Erläuterungen zu den Lösungen auf englisch sind auch eher schwierig zu verstehen. Aber dafür ist dieses LÖSUNGSBuch ja auch nicht gedacht. Die Zahlen und Rechenwege sind allesamt nachvollziehbar. Habe das Buch gerade am Anfang meines Studiums noch öfter herangezogen um meine eigene Lösung zu kontrollieren. Während des Hauptstudiums ist es zwar dann ein wenig in Vergessenheit geraten, aber zur Prüfungsvorbereitung war es mir dann wieder sehr hilfreich.

Halliday Resnick è il libro di fisica da cui tutti gli altri libri si sono ispirati per proporre esercizi di fisica (non riuscendovi al 100%). Una versione datata merita di trovarsi in ogni biblioteca di casa.

Très surpris par le prix. Ouvrage de grande qualité, très complet et détaillé. Le fait que le livre soit écrit en anglais ne doit pas rebuter: le vocabulaire est relativement basique et compréhensible de la majorité des gens.
