A Picture Book of Christopher Columbus (Picture Book Biography)

This book covers the biography of Columbus in a shorter way appropriate for children. The illustrations were very good and helped keep the kids engaged. The book did included that the sailors left behind on the first voyage were cruel to the Indians and the Indians therefore killed them. However the book did not really go through any of the complicated realities and truths. For a deeper perspective on that first voyage, i recommend Christopher Columbus (Step into Reading) Level 3. Together these two books give a pretty good overview of Columbus' life, what it felt like to sail across the unknown, and the start of tensions between the Portuguese and the indigenous peoples. These two books do not go into too much detail on the issues but contain enough for you to have a more well rounded discussions with your children. I strongly suggest you read a book on indigenous peoples as well in order to complete your Columbus day unit.

I read this to a couple of five year old boys and it managed to hold their attention. They were even able to narrate the story back to me and they enjoyed the pictures.

Wonderful book for kid

A little too detailed for Kindergartners, but great pictures for teaching about Christopher Columbus/Indigenous People's Day.

I bought this book to use with Memoria Press Enrichment Curriculum for the First Grade. It is a very good book for discussing Christopher Columbus.

I like the images in this book and the story is amazingly accurate and complete. Good job! I will be using it with my second graders.
