From their roots as a 1960s psychedelic pop band, Status Quo reinvented themselves to become a hard-rocking, wildly successful national treasure. This comprehensive 2CD set featuring all the singles, rarities and key album tracks from their formative Pye Records years perfectly charts how that metamorphosis came about. Essential listening for all Quo fans and rock historians. Includes detailed sleevenotes in an 8-page booklet.

Early quo era - a perfect education.
Although there are too many best of,greatest hits etc compilations of status quo out there;12 gold bars, from the makers of,whatever you want - the very best of....accept no substitute.do i really have to go on!This particular 2 cd collection of 'quo's early years;is an excellent 'journey'(hate that expression - sorry)of afforementioned acts genesis and early music development before they became a highly successful 'boogie' band.Psychedelic tinged classics; pictures of matchstick men, starts the ball rolling and continues with ice in the sun.the bluesy down the dustpipe sees a change of direction (one of my personal favourites).Excellent cover versions of green tamborine,I who have nothing and the price of love, are excellent inclusions to the collection.Under the earlier monikers of the spectres and Traffic jam;several of their songs are also included. The very best of the early years it certainly is,and although the other compilations out there are more career spanning;this one concentrates and educates the listener of those earlier years - 1967-72.The sleeve notes compliment the package very well too.enjoy this excellent compilation.heads down no nonsense boogie, charity records, royal seal of approval, opening live aid etc etc where just around the corner.

Love this! I have two double vinyl albums of the old Pye recordings that I bought in the 80s, but everything that mattered to me on those is on this handy double CD pack at a bargain price. Well chuffed! Interesting stereo mix of Pictures of Matchstick Men, with no phasing effect. Was close to digitizing my vinyl, this saved me a job!

Running Order
I like it and it's full of great tunes but the running order is all over the place. Would have much preferred it to be in chronological order. Highly recommended.
