Not sure what kind of processing they undergo, but these are really tough sponges. Before first use cover them with boiling water and leave to soak for a couple of hours at least. You might also want to crumple them a bit.There is another review which says "do not soften with water nor do they get very soapy" and this is true. Described manipulations will make them bit softer, but they won't satisfy someone with a soft skin anyway.

My mother wanted these after finding it difficult to locate them in several stores without paying a small fortune extra for pseudosciencific claims. They’re a little harder physically than the ones she used to use, but by using just a little bit more moisturizing wash, it’s easy enough to get around that.

This makes the mesh ones look punny. These are great not too rough but good enough to exfoliate. They get softer the more you use them. Worth the price

They are as described. I like that they have a string to hang to dry in the shower. They are a little stiff compared to my last one, but still good.

Comes with two, they're pretty small but I think its a perfect size I'm not sure you would want them any bigger. They come in pretty rough but will soften as you use them. These things save my life. If you get ingrown hairs or suffer from dry rough skin nothinggggg exfoliates like these things!

It exceeded my expectations. I was a little disappointed when I got it and felt it is hard. This spone slowly began to soften after I put it in the water 15 mins.Picking up the loofah and slowly wiping the skin,washing off the dirt my body.A wonderful shopping.BTW,You need a little patience to make it soft.
