Beethoven: The 17 Sonatas, Volume 1 (Paperback) Paperback – March 1, 1985

Prompt shipment, excellent edition, clearly printed, lies on music stand without problems. I do not presume to rate the quality of the composer.

I had the binding redone in a spiral at Office Max as it is over 300 plus pages and otherwise difficult to open on piano and turn pages. Wonderful to have the set again. My old college ones are long deteriorated.

I didn't realize the binding of Vol. 1 of Beethoven Sonatas 1-17 published by Alfred was poorer than theSimon and Schuster edition. Both volumes are edited by Artur Schnabel....my main concern....and I lovethe Bellotto painting reproduced on the Alfred cover, but it has a glued rather than sewn binding, andthe pages tend to separate too easily from the binding, and it's harder to get the pages to lie flat withoutinjuring the binding. But, I liked the fact that I could get the sonatas edited by Schnabel at a good price,and attractive volume. You get what you pay for....and I'll make do, happily.

Book is great! I have had the same edition/volume for years and have really enjoyed it. The one I just bought is for a gift.

Excellent edition, what I was looking for. My only complaint is that the pages keep falling out (after I just bought it) so I have to keep taping them back into the book.

This book is a really good thing, if you can buy it, buy it. It has some really good recommendations by the great pianist Arthur Schnabel. All the recommendations are in 4 languages: English, French, German and Spanish. Schnabel writes in a lot of parts what he thinks about performing specific part of any sonata. Digitations, Dynamics.I think buying this book is a really good inversion.

I am not a musician - I just like to play the piano - so I cannot speak to the quality of the editing. It makes sense to me. Most of the fingerings work for me and the print is easy to read. I am happy to have the Beethoven sonatas, and will be purchasing Vol. 2 in the near future.

Although I had to get this book spiral bound in order to play from it, I still am very delighted to have volume one in my possession! Now it has a handsome black spiral and I'm learning the first sonata (F minor). I look forward to purchasing the second volume to make the collection complete.
