This is a well-built high-quality shoe stretcher that will last a lifetime.
This is the shoe stretcher to get if stretching width is all that you need. I wear 10 to 10.5 men's shoes, wide when I can get them because I actually need double or triple wide (which are near impossible to find), and I ordered the Professional Shoe Stretcher size "0" (US 8.5 - 10.5). Fit is perfect on both my standard and wide-width shoes, tested with men's 9.5, 10.0 and 10.5.This item is surprisingly well-built: no plastic, good solid wood (maple), and all metal parts--including the Pressure Relief Plugs, which stay in place as they should. Yes folk, it is for just quantity one (1) shoe stretcher, which is what's meant by "NOT sold in pairs" in the product description, but I paid only $22.95 through Amazon and, as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". While that's not always true, it definitely is true in this case. This item looks and feels to me like it will last a lifetime. This is a quality item!I chose not to use any type of liquid to assist in stretching my first shoe, so I took it nice and slow. Otherwise, considering the strength-of-build with this Professional Shoe Stretcher, I'm fairly certain it could easily be over-tightened and literally tear apart a shoe long before the shoe stretcher itself would break. I will now order a second of the same item so that I can stretch a pair of shoes at the same time. That's basically $46 for a pair, but well worth it!For use with boots, one thought I've had is to hacksaw off a portion of the long screw, basically eliminating the triangular handle plus a little bit more. Then I'd weld a hex-head onto the screw, effectively making it a bolt. This would allow me to fit the stretcher into a boot and use a ratcheting wrench to reach down in and tighten the bolt. Maybe the maker of this item will read this review and make such a version in the future. If so, I'll buy a pair of those too, so long as nothing else is changed. I understood when I purchased this item that it won't work with boots or mid-high shoes, but switching to a hex-head bolt certainly seems like a solution that would allow it to stretch the width of normal shoes, as well as mid-high shoes and boots.Stay away from the cheap shoe stretchers with plastic pieces that will break. Pay a little bit more for this quality item. I'm glad I did so.

If your shoe is too tight, this will solve your problem!
I had some shoes that barely bit my feet that I stupidly paid a lot of money for and couldn't return. Yeah, I'm a dumb dumb.So I bought these bad boys. I've tried all the shoe stretching techniques... water/ice in the freezer, wearing 46 pair of socks, etc. No bueno.I tried this and it worked. Only downside is there is only one. So - if you need significant change - it will happen, but it will take awhile. I got my shoes to where I wanted them, but it took a about a week.Basically you stretch the shoe, leave it for 24 hours, then do the other one. Rinse and repeat.Ultimately it did what I expected. Only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because there is only one and IMO this isn't inexpensive for something which you may critically need but (hopefully) won't need again. Also, no instruction on how to best use it was a bit of a let down (it comes with these two silver oval pieces you can plug into the various holes on the device - no clue what they do). That said, the quality is solid and they will dot the job.

Scratched up on bottom and missing piece
Just received today, and immediately noticed that it only had one metal plug. It's supposed to have two. Also, the wood is scratched up & scuffed on the bottom. I paid for new, and it appears to be used. I guess that's the part that frustrates me -- because if it were new (and not used), then it would probably have the missing metal plug. When you pay for new, you expect new condition. I tried out on my shoe, and it did the job. I give it 3 stars. Would have been more if they got the order right.

Sturdy screw mechanism unlike complaints of failure of most plastic and even wood reviewed products
Trying to use in both shoes and non-leather winter boots to relieve pressure on fatter left little toe. Initially the holes to attach metal pressure accents were not where I needed them but a 3/16 drill bit solved that quickly. Too soon to know whether stretching stays or if the man made material reverts to its original shape. I considered multiple stretchers and am pleased to report this in fact has a sturdy metal mechanism explaining its higher cost-worth it so far

Somewhat wide for a womans shoe
Because there is no real "bend" in this design it makes it difiicult to get to the tip of your shoe - so if you're trying to stretch close to your toes this will not work - its too wide - I was using them in wingtips for woman and still cannot get it pushed down far enough in the shoe to be effective

Thank you
I was very hesitant in buy this product. There were so many shoe stretchers listed on Amazon. Most of them had terrible ratings and reviews. I took a chance on this one. It was pricier than most of the others and while I know that doesn't always mean that it is better I took a shot. When the package came I couldn't imagine what it was, it was so heavy. I had ordered 8 pairs of shoes on line about a year ago from a big and tall man company that were sold as WIDE width, I couldn't get them on my feet. They had been on sale and they would not take them back. I couldn't bear to throw them away so they had just been sitting in my closet taking up space. I tried the stretcher the first night. I kept it in one shoe for about 5 hours and in the other over night. I tried the one on after 5 hours and it fit the next day the other one did as well. I am happy to say that now I can wear all 8 pairs of shoes and the shoe stretcher is still ready to do its duty. I only wish I had purchased 2 so that I could do 2 at a time.

decent option for tight shoes
This was successful in stretching my Allen Edmonds that were tight in the little toe. They kinda worked. They definitely stretched the shoe... but more in the top of the shoe than on the little toe. I used the inserts to focus on the toe region but it still seemed to do more stretching in the top area. That said I prefer stretching them myself, gradually, rather than sending them out and risking them being stretched too much at once.

Great thing to have
Great thing to have . You can stretch your shoes at home and have the extra comfort you are looking for when the shoes develop a tight spot on your foot. Perfect!!
