Soil: The dwarf guava does well in poor soils that would barely support other fruit trees. It is shallow-rooted and it is able to endure flooding for short periods. Temperature: It can be grown in zones 9 to 11. Tolerates short-lived light frosts and cool summers. The dwarf guava is hardier than the common guava and can survive temperatures as low as 22º F (-5.56º C). Flourishes in full sun. Fertilize: Encourage fruit production by feeding with fertilizer such as organic compost/manure. Water: Requires a well watered soil. Dwarf guava uses and benefits: Cattley guavas are eaten out-of-hand, the skin is edible too. A delicious puree or tart-filling can be made by trimming and cooking 6 cups of cattleys with 1 cup water and 2 cups granulated sugar and pressing through a sieve. It can be made into jelly, jam, butter, paste and sherbet. Dwarf guava juice is very popular in the Caribbean. The guavas are blended and the strained to obtain a smooth juice. The leaves are used to make herbal tea. It's rich in vitamin C, A, B, calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium. As well as in soluble fiber (pectin), tannins and numerous aromatic substances in its pulp.
