Q: Are the crickets raised in the USA?

Thanks for the question. The crickets are raised in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. We use a fair trade system that allows us to tap into the generations of knowledge Thai farmers have in growing crickets for food. The processes that the farmers use are adapted to adhere and exceed international hygiene standards. We can do this all while providing the farmers with a fair price they can use to reinvest in their cricket farming businesses.

Q: Would this taste good in mashed potatoes?

I guess it would depend on a few things... Cricket powder, by itself and as best as I can describe it, has somewhat of a dirt flavor to it with a slight hint of saltiness. If these are attributes that your taste buds already find appealing, then I'd imagine it would be good. Also, how much you add to your food would probably be a factor as well. Personally, I just like to mix it in the all my other powdered supplements, add warm water, and just gulp it down as quick as possible because mostly all that stuff tastes bad anyway.

Q: Is this powder or flour?

It is a powder. You cannot use it in place of a normal cooking flour 1-for-1. When baking with Bud's Pure Cricket Powder, a good rule of thumb I find is to swap out about 15% of the flour with cricket powder. This formula works for muffins, banana or zucchini bread, cake, etc. It's a little different for pasta, but I don't know the ratio off the top of my head. Hope this helps!

Q: what is the shelf life?

Thank you for your question, most of our powder has a best by date by at least one year however as long as the powder is kept dry and sealed in the resealable bag then it should last much longer.
