Product description Mortal Kombat Armageddon (PS2) .co.uk Review In a nutshell: Billed as the last Mortal Kombat game on the current generation consoles, Armageddon sees a return to one-on-one fighting and playable cameos for every single character from the series. The lowdown: This isnt another roaming beat em-up, like Shaolin Monks, but rather a one-on-one beat em-up that works as a sort of 3D Mortal Kombat Trilogy, with the main draw that it contains 60 different playable characters from throughout the series history. In part this is to make up for the fact that the game hasnt really changed much from 2004s Deception although there are new aerial combos and an improved parrying system. Oddly the number of different combat styles for each character has been reduced from three to two though and the once impressive graphics are starting to look a bit long in the tooth. It remains the most accessible 3D fighter around though and still does better at carrying on the originals legacy than many other franchise sequels. Most exciting moment: In order to make up for the lack of gameplay changes, Armageddon includes a huge range of extra options and game modes. The best is Konquest which is a lot more fun than the similarly named game mode in Deception, with a great little arcade adventure containing mountains of unlockables to use in the main game.Since you ask: Few of the other new options work as well as Konquest, with the Mario Kart style Motor Kombat being particularly dire. The Kreate-A-Fatality option is also a bit of a damp squib and the Kreate-A-Fighter is only slightly more interesting - and seems somewhat redundant considering how many characters are in the game already. The bottom line: An unnecessary sequel but one thats still hard not to have fun with.-HARRISON DENT

Great game
One of the more original and less flawed of the MK series, Armageddon is filled with hours of fun and intense fighting thanks to not only the story mode but also the fact that you can edit your characters down to the slightest fighting move, thus allowing you to essentially create your own fighting form. You also get swords and war hammers in this one and can unlock visual features and fighting moves either by completing the story mode once or twice, or by winning coins in fighting mode and/or the game's in-game arcade mode.Brilliant fun. My only gripe is that you can only create one original character for each player save. That means I have to create a new save slot and play the game all over again to unlock even the basics. That's probably why I go through phases of playing the game and then not even thinking about it for months.

Great game, I recommend
Great game, I recommend. I bought this second hand and it works perfectly fine, except when you need to collect stuff in the woods it stops after 5 mins. I reckon its probably coz of there are some scratches on the disc. Its a pity coz I was curious where it leads but well I play with it rarely and the main part of the game works perfectly fine. I recommend this game.

Middle Down the Road Midway
Despite the backlash against this game, it is the first mortal kombat game I have ever played. The main selling points is that the fact that all characters from previous games appear once again even though some are unwelcomed like Hsu Hao or just complete rip-offs of other fighting games characters such as Kobra and Darrius. The best thing is the create your own fighter mode where you can purchase the clothes, the shoes and choose what colours. You can then play yourself in a fighting game. Cool huh!The downsides is that the character models are ripped from Deception and Deadly Alliance and the whole feel of the game seems a bit rushed but the story mode while not the best story is fun to play. The arcade mode is also fun putting you against harder opponents after every battle. The fighting gameplay is fun and the controls are easy to use when throwing attacks or blocking or even doing combos. The only problem is thatthere are no fatalities which is kind of disappointing but doesn't really detract.Overall, if you want some fun that can be dipped in and out of, then choose this game.

Amazing send-off to ps2 series
An amazing game that wraps up the story perfectly,From the incredible opening sequence to the awesome konquest mode and 60 kharacters to choose from, this will keep you busy for a while. However of course it's not perfect. Each character now only has two fighting styles (a technique and a weapon) and the endings for the kharacters are very weak, only a animation of the character jumping around like an egit with a voiceover telling you what happened!Overall though an amazing game that is well worth the cheap price!
