LG Electronics Blu-ray/DVD Writer Optical Drive - WH16NS60

Out of box, flashed with the downgraded firmware, and it works perfectly for reading HD blu-ray/UHD blu-ray discs with makemkv at good speeds.Drive was quick and easy to install, no special setup needed.Note: May want to use in an isolated 5.25" enclosure if using multiple drives, as this may just be the one I received, but multiple units in operation would cause this drive to have read errors. Operating on it's own was flawless high speed (up to 6.0x) read speeds on the larger discs (~75GB UHD Blu-rays)

After I flashed this drive with new firmware it's now a friendly drive and I can copy my store bought 4k movies to my PC. The whole DRM shenanigans is a total joke. But at least there is a way around it. Playerfab lets me watch 4k MKV movie files for free. So I don't even need to pay for any software to watch Discs. My discs can all go in storage and all my movies are just a click away on my Hard Drive. I love it. I definitely recommend this drive for 4k movies. I put mine in a USB case and it works great.

This is a fantastic product, solid and does the job. It even ripped Waterboy which 2 of my other Blu-ray drives couldn't do (They're different brands from this). I bought this to compact my set up and since I knew this would last longer, I wanted to get one while I could.My only complaint was the way the item was shipped. It wasn't padded very well in the box. I'm guessing this falls on the hands of Amazon, cause they put my enclosure that I bought from Amazon in the box with it. If the box had dropped, it could've damaged the drive. I still intend to buy a second set, just to have as a backup.

I buy a LOT of DVDs and Blu-Rays. So many that they were taking up several massive shelves in my rec-room. When COVID hit, my wife and I made it a project to build a media-server and rip every last disk to it... then box up all the disks, toss them in the attic and reclaim our wall-space. 880 movies and 3 long months later, we finished thanks to the workhorse this outstanding LG drive was! Highly recommend!

If you need to work with UHD disks, this is probably your best option. Additionally, this drive can read pretty much everything else. This drive is great for archiving with most forms of disk based media. I am planning on burning some M-Disks containing scans of papers I want to throw away and using the disks as an offsite backup. Unfortunately, after a few months of use, the unit stopped be able to read blu-rays and could only read some DVDs. It could be that I was storing it too close to an overheating hard drive, (Don't stick an HDD into a 5.25in bay without adequate cooling BTW.) or it could be that some dust got on the lens and it just needs some cleaning. I got a replacement unit for the time being and that one is working fine, but I might have to change this review if the new one breaks as quickly as the first one. Also, for non-technical people, the packaging is not very user friendly, it's just the device and a random disk with software on it. No paper instructions at all (not even a link to a PDF) and no SATA cable.

Elegí esta grabadora porque en los análisis se la considera por goleada como la mejor para grabar Blu-rays. Hasta el momento la he utilizado en combinación con el software de copia de seguridad de Elby para hacer imágenes ISO de mis Blu-ray originales (de cualquier zona) a fin de poder usarlos en mi Nvidia Shield TV Pro (no he probado aún con discos UHD). Funciona de maravilla, estoy muy contento con la compra. Aparte, el envío desde EE. UU. fue increíblemente rápido y sin problemas. Y a un precio excelente (100 $, que, al cambio, tras gastos de envío, IVA, aduanas y demás, aún resultó unos 60 euros más barato de lo que costaba en España).

I have been backing up CD's since the 90's so I know a thing or two about CD/DVD/BD burners. I have found scratches on some of my CD's that were not previously there. So now I look at the disc very carefully before backing up and after. I have been getting scratches on discs inconsistently after using this drive, making mint condition CD's some brand new go from Mint to VG at best with just one rip. The drive is clean inside, discs are not warped and some of the CD's it has ruined would cost me more to rebuy than this burner cost. I have had better luck with cheap OEM drives that came with pre-built PC's and this is not user error. Totally disgusted with this product and wouldn't recommend unless you don't mind scratches in your discs that are out of print and can never get a new one. The whole point of backing up a CD is to keep it in perfect collectible shape as it was before you put it in the drive. I am very unhappy but I know I will get the runaround and it isn't worth my time. This is pathetic. And yes the drive and PC are level, discs are not warped and the drive is clean inside and has not been bumped in anyway during backup. Something is hitting my discs during the backup process inside like the laser must hit it occasionally. Never had this issue in my life. I think a 30.00 drive would be on par with this. This is why I bought an expensive drive to assume it had better quality. I learned the hard way.

I bought this model as it is one of the few Libredrive models that supports 4K discs and regular blu-rays. This model looked like it would rip a blu-ray disc the fastest. Indeed, ripping a movie on a blu-ray disc with MakeMKV only took 20 minutes. The current models in 2021 are loaded with firmware version 1.03., this is encrypted andyou must get a firmware update to access 4K and all region features. See "SpyroManiac" review for instructions on how to patch firmware. I've attached an MKV info screen showing how it looks after it is patched. I've ripped both 4K and blu-ray since updating.

Compré este lector para ver mis películas blu ray 4k en la PC con mi monitor 4K. Sin embargo, fue penoso darme cuenta que al tratar de reproducir mis discos mi aplicación de reproducción marca un error por falta de una característica llamada SGX, que sólo está disponibles en procesadores intel de las generacionse 8 a la 10, las generaciones 11 y 12 de intel ya no permiten la reproducción de discos UltraHD en el pc. Una averdadera lastima que intel ya no permita la reproducción de películas 4k en el PC debido a sus procesadores.

My model was the February 2021 Version Loaded with the 1.03 Firmware. It works fantastic, and If Needed to Rip UHD Disks Downgrade the Firmware.

dass mein voriger Computer kein TPM2-Chip hatte, und ohne diesen keine geschützten Datenträger abgespielt werden konnten. Er kann auch nichts dafür, dass mein neuer Computer zwar einen TPM-Chip hat, dafür nun aber Intel die nötigen Schaltkreise nicht mehr in die Prozessoren baut.Der Blu-Ray-Player ist also zu nichts Anderem, als für Backup-Datenträger oder Brenner und Lesegerät für DVDs und CDs (ohne Kopierschutz) zu gebrauchen.Danke, ihr Kopierschutz-Spinner von der Hardware- und Medien-Industrie! Ich kaufe euch GARNIX mehr ab!

Ho dovuto aspettare a lungo prima di poter effettuare questo acquisto, ed ora posso finalmente vedere i film in 4K almeno sul monitor del computer. Per coloro che amano il cinema e l'alta definizione lo consiglio vivamente ed in surplus è anche un ottimo masterizzatore, d'altronde i prodotti LG non mi hanno mai deluso.

This is still the best Blu-ray and UHD drive available on the market. It's THE recommended one at the MakeMKV Forum.I use OWC Mercury Pro to turn it into an external drive and it works flawlessly. Been watching and ripping my Blu-ray collection since I've received it.The seller is top-notch, too. Lightning fast delivery, good packaging and resonably priced.10/10
