I have had this exact birdhouse for 12 years and am very happy with it but a very high snow storm this winter bent the pole over and then the house crashed to the ground. When I ordered a new pole, I decided to order a new house to the one that took the tumble. As everyone else stated, this takes a few hours to assemble because of the nut/bolt assembly system. It comes knocked down as a series of panels. They fit together very well and as long as you follow the instructions, it goes smoothly. If you are impatient and clumsy, don't get this item as it will make you a blood donor with the many exposed sharp edges during assembly. Once together, it's a very solid and well made item.My first martin house is still in fairly good shape, though the finial is gone. We have a large property and open field in a wet area where bugs abound, so the martins just love this area and you can watch them swooping over the field for hours gulping up bugs. When I mow the field, the martins are in a non-stop dive bomb at my tractor because I kick up so many bugs it's like an all you can eat free for all for the birds.Patience is a virtue in assembly. The end product will make the investment of a few hours well worth it, but it does take time so don't plan on knocking this down in an hour unless you've assembled hundreds of these before. The nuts and bolts are tiny and the assembly is awkward to handle while putting it all together. This will last well over ten years and the only threat to it's longevity is wind and something falling on it.

Well worth the frustrating assembly
Nice! It came in a small box and seemed like a hundred sharp pieces of sheet metal that were a little tough to assemble since the holes are in awkward or near impossible places to reach but an hour later it was a beautiful bird house! It’s larger than I expected and I’m happy about that. It’s made to be mounted on their pole but can be reamed to fit a standard heavy duty 1” galvanized pipe. You need to be a little creative but it’s worth it for such a nice end product and for under $100. I hope to see some design improvement (sharp edges, roof mounting holes that can’t be reached with tools should have a snap or better placement and should have crescent holes instead of round) but I would definitely buy again.

Lots to assemble!
This Purple Martin house is nice once put together - but look out! Lots of assembly! One word of caution - it does NOT come with mounting pole; the likes of which Amazon sells for $100 and up. Yikes!

It will last a long time.
It is bigger and better than I thought. It is made out of sheet metal and should last for years. They say it works best when mounted on telescoping pole made by the same company. I had to assemble it. It took me 3-4 hours. I actually enjoyed it because the instructions were perfect. It was like an erector set. I am elderly, but most elderly people would think it is too difficult. They only gave me the exact number of little bolts and nuts. Two did not work. I forced one and the threads caught. I had to find a replacement for the last bolt. But I had one in the basement. I hope I am not too late for the arrival of the birds. The rails were hard for me to install; my son did that.

Other negative reviews are not wrong
Took four hours to assemble the three story house. Got the Heath pole, and together it was a disaster waiting to happen (that did happen). It wasn't up a week.Couldn't get the pole together without major filing and machining due to bad seams inside the poles. The wall thickness is so thin it's not enough to support this house. One average storm and the whole thing came down, bending the pole at ground level. The plastic perches are a very bad design. Won't stay on, IF you can get them on.Bought two poles - one is going back after not being able to get it together.I'm a mechanically inclined and determined individual. You get what you pay for and it's not worth what I paid for. Just aweful - looks good, but should be put on a shelf and admired, only. Pay attention to the other negative reviews - I should have but thought I could make it work.

difficult to assemble, very low quality parts and fit
product requires complete assembly. Very finicky because of multiple small nuts and bolts. helpful hint--use 1/8 pop rivets and 1/8 aluminum washers for the pop rivets. Much faster to put together. The instructions are terrible, none of the metal panels are labeled so it takes a bit to figure out. The video on line is not helpful.Plastic parts are very very low quality. The plastic bushing that holds the house on the pole had threads of the locking bolt strip out on first attempt to mount the house. going to have to engineer a fix, because the part can only be removed if you completely disassemble the house, which isn't practical.

Good price
Attractive and fairly easy to assemble. The true test comes in the spring when the Martin colony returns to occupy their new digs.

I bought this for a Xmas gift for my Dad that lives on Lake Erie for a new Purple Martin House
As you can see it is up there on the pole and yes the Purple Martins did arrive to their destination from South America to my Dad's as they do every year! They are enjoying their new hotel and making babies etc. but my Dad did say it was a little difficult to put together and is a little bit flimsy. Regardless the feathered friends will not be checking out of this hotel/condo until the fall! Thanks so much.
