took a month to arrive
UPDATE [20170608]I've since found it much easier to grow seedlings using seeds from fresh fruits, which are sometimes sold at Hispanic grocery stores. Decorticate (remove the brown shell), and then either plant the seed in moist, well-drained medium or keep it loosely wrapped in a moist paper towel (I have one growing in my kitchen sink right now).UPDATE [20170322]I think I've killed my seeds. Kept in plastic bags with moist paper towels, they were repeatedly overgrown by fungus. Next time I try to grow mamey seeds, I'll put them into cups of soil in a propagation box that maintains higher temperature and humidity. The cooler temperature of my kitchen counter probably encouraged fungus and discouraged the seeds from growing.UPDATE [20161125]After about a month of keeping the three seeds wrapped in moist paper towels within Ziploc bags on my kitchen counter, I see root growth from two of the three seeds' pointy ends. I'll continue to keep the paper towels moist as well as to clean the seeds and replace the paper towels every couple of weeks when they get moldy. Hopefully the third seed will also put out a root in the coming weeks. Perhaps in another month the seeds will be ready to be potted.ORIGINAL REVIEW [20161020]I've just received my three seeds, a month and a day after ordering from seller "GIANT CARIBBEAN SEEDS". They were shipped together in a clear plastic bag within a small manila envelope from an address in the Dominican Republic. They are glossy, medium-brown seeds, 65, 66, and 78 millimeters in length. They make clickety-clack sounds when I roll them in my hands. I'm excited to start trying to germinate them. Hopefully I'll remember to update this review in a month or so.I'm including a couple of photos of the seeds I received, with a US quarter for scale.
