Solid build, heavier than I thought
Solid build, heavier than I thought. I mean… 10 pounds is 10 pounds, but as this was my first weight/sand bag for my camera gear ever, without extra heavy gear, this definitely seems too heavy for my current gear. But I’m sure I’ll find use for it later on when I get more gear. If you don’t already have extra heavy gear, I’d recommend getting the lighter option

Great counterweight
When I first picked up this counterweight, I thought it might be overkill for my use. At most I have 2 580EX II speedlights and a softbox at the end of my boom, which is the Manfrotto 420CSU 3- Section Combi- Boom Stand with Sand Bag - Replaces 3399 , which is a pretty heavy boom stand. However, it balances out my setup nicely and makes the stand rock solid. The counterweight itself is very easy to attach and move, and stays in place once screwed down. Note that it is orange, not red as pictured.

Great product
Great product easy to use and clamp on - provides a nice counter weight - much prefer it over sand bags.

Great counterweight for Boom Arms and tripods
I have an Avenger Boom Arm that always has a Proto, or equivalent, lighting head on it. Without this counterweight, the boom arm would be useless. The counterweight balances the flash head so that things do fall down all over the place. I also have on a C Stand, and a regular tripod. On total, I have 4 of these. 2 of them were bought in 2012 and they are still working great. If you have a boom arm, you need this weight on it.

Great Counterweight
This counterweight is built to last. I wish I could afford to have all my accessories from Manfrotto because the quality really is there. I will definitely save up for Manfrotto when it comes to light stand purchases in the future.

Gets the job done
I got tired of using the sand bags and purchased this to go with my Manfrotto boom. This is a must have item!!! Provides the exact amount of counterbalance needed when supporting strobes and lightboxes from the end of a 6 foot boom arm. Easily slides up and down the boom arm and when tightened down it stays in place.

Nice finish and does exactly what it is intended for.
This counterweight does exactly what it is supposed to do. I chose this over others costing much less because the others did not have the rubber inside the V to help protect the light stands from being damaged or scratched. I like the handle operation, which is the same type of handle on my Paul C. Buff Einsteins. I would have given this 5 stars, but the protective rubber piece I mentioned is only on the V. It is not on the inside of the top black clamp. I did order another exact same counterweight if that helps.

Pretty heavy, very useful.
This is a pretty heavy weight. Tried using it as a counterweight for a DSLR shoulder rig. Great balance but made the entire rig too heavy. I now use this weight to hold down my tripod, lights, or mic stands. Very useful.

Works well and very compact. (Paid CAD$67)
This counterweight is awesome. I own a few of them. I don't like using sandbags, they are awkward to use and to store. Using the Manfrotto counterweights keeps the work area tidy and safe. My main issue is the price. It's way too high and I bought this at CAD$67.

Great alternative to hanging a sandbag from your boom.
This is a very practical solution to adding a counterweight to your lighting boom. It is heavy enough for my equipment but if you have very heavy lighting equipment you might prefer the larger one, also made by Manfrotto. It’s got a good finish, although I don’t yet know how easily it will scratch. You could also fit this to the leg of a lighting stand instead of a sandbag, but it’s small size and rounded edges make it ideal for using on a boom. At least if you bop your head into it by accident, the rounded corners aren’t going to cut you :-)In any case, I would happily recommend this weight to anyone looking for a stable way to fix a counterweight to a tubular item such as a boom arm.
