Great promise. Not perfect.
Well, my search for a perfect travel router continues. HooToo TM-03 was a promising entry, but it failed to deliver.I travel frequently, and I carry several devices with me. Logging in to various hotel networks on each device is a pain, so a travel router like TM-03 is a very handy device: it allows me to connect and login once, while all other devices automatically recognize TM-03's private network. Being able to stream movies to family's iPads is a plus, too. So, why only 3 stars? Read on.First, the good parts:1. Small and compact. Lots of functionality.2. Built-in battery means it does not require a power source to operate: great to stream movies on a plane.3. Can top-off your phone in an emergency.4. Streaming movies and music from mSD card works fairly well, though interface is a bit awkward to use. But, as is the case with many similar devices, once I started using it plenty of annoyances became apparent. You may or may not care about these, but beware:1. [See update below] The router has a pretty big security hole: there is no way to disable configuration from outside, plus it keeps unsecured Telnet interface open. This is a big no-no in network security, and basically allows anyone connected to the same network as the router (i.e., anyone connected to the same hotel Wi-Fi) to open a shell prompt and *run commands on your router*, listen to traffic, potentially inject viruses or other malware. They would need to know your admin password, but - be honest - how many of you pick a secure password to configure a travel router? My guess is that many continue using default. There doesn't appear to be a way to disable this 'feature'.2. It frequently fails to connect to, or even *see* hotel networks. On my trip last week I stayed at two places; I could use the router at neither. It would not see the first hotel's network (perhaps there were too many other?) and would see, but not connect to the other hotel's network. All of my other devices had no problem connecting to either network. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a travel router.3. Even when it works Internet access speed sometimes suffers quite a lot. I could get a decent connection of 3-4Mbps when connected directly to hotel's Wi-Fi, but only 1Mbps when connected via TM-03. Some overhead is to be expected, but it frequently makes Internet access unusable. It's not always the case, but happens frequently enough to be major annoyance. Again, defeats the purpose of carrying a travel router.TM-03 is going to join Zuni, a couple of D-Link, Edimax and TPLink in the box of devices to be recycled soon...as soon as I find the next device to try.Disclaimer: I receive no discounts or free merchandize from device manufacturers in exchange for my unbiased review. I just want to find a router that works and doesn't leave my devices open to hackers.November 20, 2015 Update: Per manufacturer's recommendation below I have updated the router to firmware v2.000.016. The security hole described above appears to be closed, so I've bumped my rating to 4 stars. I'll test performance and connectivity over the next few weeks and update the review if necessary.

Decent travel router, doesn't work well in Android, Windows or Chrome Book, very few capabilities.
They seem to have lumped all the reviews for the different models together, I was wondering how something with so many problems could get 1555 five star reviews but I suspect a lot of them are fakes! After seeing all the claims for this thing I was disappointed that it doesn't really do much. It's a nice compact travel router and Wi-Fi hotspot but it doesn't do much else. They claim it can stream music and videos but after putting in an SD card with songs on it they are hard to access on my laptop. There is no "Stream" function on the menu, I can see the files but there's no apparent way to upload or download them. There is no obvious app for Windows 7 or 8.1 or Chrome Book, just Android and iOS. They do have a hidden double secret app for Windows but it's hard to find. If you travel with this and have to login at a motel and you have devices that can't login such as a camera or internet radio there's no way to do that. It's VERRRRY slow and takes a long time to do anything! When first turned on it takes quite a while before Wi-Fi starts working and when a memory stick is inserted it takes a few minutes just to find it.Also, it gets quite hot in just a few minutes! I have a Linksys WRT160N V3 that works the same as this item does, it's a bit bigger and doesn't run on batteries but it was only $3.99 at Goodwill!Any claims this can do streaming, file sharing as a NAS or local cloud is basically a scam.In order to get it to play a song I had to put the song on an SD card and insert it in the unit. Then I had to:1. Connect to it's Wi-Fi, not easy since it's name doesn't always show up on the list.2. Open a web browser and browse to it's IP address of http://10.10.10.254/.3. Log in with your user ID and password.4. Click the File Explorer to open it and find the USB or SD card memory to open the list of files.5. Click on the file for a song, then click Download and it should start playing in the browser.6. It will just play the one song and stop unless you highlight a bunch of them at one time. This is not a very good user experience when playing songs! While the secret Windows app only has options for jumping to the GUI or looking at the files, the Android app is even worse! When it's opened you get some squares on the screen that looks sort of like a Windows phone that are labeled Videos, Photos, Music, Documents, File Folder and System. However if I open any of them it just says "The folder is empty" no matter what is on the memory stick. In order to find anything you still have to open File Folder, select the volume then select from one of the folders. This whole thing was very poorly thought out. After opening a folder containing some files they have boxes next to each one and some tools such as Copy and Paste. I assume you could use that to upload or download files but if you copy something where do you paste it? Hard to tell without any directions! There is no way to determine the battery state of charge. Unlike what some reviewers say who claim it has long battery life there is no way to determine that.Another problem is lets say they were able to magically produce apps that made this work and I took it on a trip in the car so my friends could use it. No one would be able to use it since they wouldn't have the app installed!Since it doesn't really do much and is a pain to use I returned it for a refund.

It's cool and it works
Great product. But even though it's a portable wireless router, the best part is that (with the addition of a micro SD card) it's a NAS, network attached storage! Why do you need it?You want an easy way to transfer files between two phones when you have no WIFI and bluetooth would just be too slow. Both phones connect to the router over WiFi and mount the microSD card using SMB. One phone copies to the NAS, the other reads it.You want to watch movies on the plane and you don't have enough space left on your phone or tablet.Using a micro SD adapter, copy the movie from your computer onto the micro SD card. Insert the micro SD card into the router. Connect to the router over WiFi, mount the microSd card using SMB and begin watching. No copying needed if your movie viewer app supports streaming. You AND your GF want to watch movies on the plane. As above. It just works. I'm pretty sure this won't scale to 30 people, but I've tried it with two and it works. You don't trust the cloud (or you don't have a connection) and you want to backup those pictures you just took with your phone.Connect to the router, mount with SMB and copy your pictures to the NAS. If you want two copies, pop out the microSD card, put in another microSD card and do it again. You have a file that you want to share with a group of folks. As above. You'll have to give out the connection password to the router and setup everyone with software once. But after that...And yes, you can bridge from either a wired connection or another wireless pointIt's cool and it works.
