Bunker: Project 12

It's not terrible. The premise is an old standby, and speaking of old standbys, it's always good to see Eric Roberts and James Cosmo working. The pace isn't that great, and like a great many movies it's barely adequate scripting, directing that concentrates on how it looks more than how it plays, and handsome/pretty actors/actresses who aren't really up to the task. Also, the very end of the movie is stupid. All told, it's kinda average. It's Roberts and Cosmo, two legit old pros, who earn it the two extra stars. -- 2.5/5

Interesting concept but not well executed. Several major mistakes the makers made included casting non Russian speakers to play Russians which made it seem inauthentic. An example is the ‘Soviet’ general in the movie didn’t speak a word of Russian even to other Soviet characters. The Soviet uniforms looked awful. They should have hired a military historian to at least get those right. At one point an AK is fired with the safety visibility on which looked silly to anyone who knows about weapons. I guess they used a lot of the budget to hire Eric Roberts and the guy who was on Game of Thrones. It could have been a better movie if more of the budget had gone to technical advisers and they had flushed out the plot a bit.

The film lets you know a top secret Russian Cold War project was abandoned in 1973 and everyone associated with it were killed except for 3 scientist who escaped and are still being hunted.The mystery of identity of the project takes about an hour or so before they reveal it, and at that point the ending drags out about twice as long as it should. However, before that the film runs a number of subplots and gets us confused as to what is going on. This made the film a chore to watch. I am going to summarize the first 23-27 minutes which some might consider a spoiler: John Henderson (Eric Roberst) is part of an arms company. He wants Project 12. (I will omit how he knows about it.) He has hired men to get the remaining scientists as he needs 3 items: The code, the key, and the co-ordinates. They need to get them before the Russians get them. The opening bus scene is repeated 23 minutes later, so you can just ignore it. There is a double agent in the group, but that is not the worst of it.It is an Eric Roberts film, so don't expect a gem. It is a mixed genre, one that has been done before. Timothy Gibbs gives us a George Clooney type of performance , that was pretty much wasted. The hand to hand/knife scene at the end was a joke of poor camera work and bad choreography. Natasha Alam provides the token eye candy. They missed out having a hot Asian chick.Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

The actors were talented and that is about the high point. Opening bus scene is repeated later. Not sure why. Much of the movie is disjointed scenes to let us know how tough and clever the hired guns are. Language is also an issue in that there are scenes spoken in assorted foreign languages with no subtitles. That was annoying. Later, Russian soldiers go from speaking Russian to speaking English. Apparently they could not afford subtitles and decided it was just easier for Russian to speak English. I don't know. Anyway, our hired guns have to track down three fugitive Russian scientists who each hold a necessary part for finding and opening the bunker, which the Soviets abandoned and buried in 1973. Once they have what they need, including one of the scientists who knows the bunker lay out, its off to the bunker. Its a long road getting there and a longer one once they arrive. They want to recover what weapon's program the Russians were working on but they don't know what that is. It turns out the Russians were making super soldiers. These soldiers are still alive and patrolling the bunker. We have a few encounters with them but most of the action is between the hired guns as one or two of them have their own agendas. The hand-to-hand sequence was completely pointless and not all that well choreographed. The bunker gets blown putting an end to the super soldiers and the machine that made them...Or did it? The ending was totally predictable and pure Hollywood. Long, pointless movie.

Wildly underwhelming, particularly because the more interesting elements of the trailer are virtually untouched until the last third of the movie. Once there, they aren't well done, but wow this thing sets itself up for failure.

Horrible acting. Also, why shoot a monstrous super soldier 50 times in the chest and don't realize that shooting it in the eyes would guarantee to stop it? Dumb.
