This World War II drama stars Tom Courtenay as the famous French Mime Antoine Moreau. Ordered by the Nazis to provide 'the greatest show of his life' for use as propoganda showing the kinder side of the Nazis as the war draws to a close, Moreau decides to risk everything to tell the world the real truth behind this monumental lie, and although as a mime he is pledged to keep his lips sealed, his voice must be heard. (1991) Run time: 106 minutes.

Awesome Performance!
The year is 1944. The French Mime Antoine Moreau is wrongly accused of beeing involved with the Resistance. The Nazis offer him to save his life if he agrees to perform for Jewish children in a Ghetto in Czecheslovakia, so that they can pretend to a Delegation of the Red Cross that they would treat the Jews humane. On arrival Antoine soon finds out that the Nazis plan to send all the Ghetto Inhabitants to the Gas Chambers of Auschwitz once the Red Cross Delegation has left! He eventually decides to perform after all, but the performance is not quite what the Nazis had in mind! The end of the film is sheer overwhelming! An absolute must see!!!

NOT AS ADVERTISED
A great little film and one of my favourite Tom Courtenay movies. Unfortunately this is not the complete 1 hour 58 minutes Czech / English European version advertised but an English only trimmed and censored version presumably made for the American bible belt. At this price they could have at least given the correct runtime especially as it clearly states on the box 106 minutes. If you want to watch the original uncut movie, look elsewhere.

as well as joy and comradeship
A superb movie giving an insight into the lives, fears, as well as joy and comradeship, of a troubled time during the war seen through the eyes of Germans and Jews alike, mainly the children. Tom Courtney, as the German mime, is truly amazing in the role, and his relationship with the Jewish children is, at times, likely to have you reaching for the tissues. Highly recommended.

Shocking, Disturbing, Coming Of Age Movie
It is the story about a man who is in charge of a theatre group of Jews during World War II in Nazi Germany, who also has a little girl (played by Linda Jablonska) who develops a liking to the man.The movie is filled with the shocking drama experienced by Jews during World War II as well as nude scenes. I found out about the movie by reading the Amazon.com Kindle book titled THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO GIRLS IN COMING OF AGE MOVIES 2013. It is filled with similar movies, many of which I'd not known as being in the Coming of Age genre.

Controversial, Brilliant, and Heartbreaking
The Last Butterfly is a collage of controversial, brilliant, and heartbreaking, performances as well as containing a fine amount of humor providing us the in-between fragments of true humanity and soul the victims contained within themselves even in the darkest hours of there lives. This film has a fine cast of wonderful performances, the children are fantastic and I do love the mime characteristic of the film, it's splendid. This is a beautiful motion picture without the shiny polished Hollywood glam.

Very nice
Lovely story nicely make by one of the best Czech directors Karel Kachyna. Ota Hofman is the legend of Czech writters for children with still popular TVseries PAN TAU namely in german speaking countries. Poetic imagination without today's necasary galons of blood

It is a shame that this film is "out of print". I sincerely hope that there is another DVD release so that more people can share this experience.
