This book was a useful tool—not the end all be all; but a useful tool to have (along with other tools like FACS textbooks, the Mometrix flash cards and any practice tests you can get your hands on). There are some excellent general test taking tips at the beginning and a fairly thorough overview of general FACS material (which is a great start/introduction to the content). The practice test is helpful but each question contains five possible choices whereas the actual test mostly has four possible choices (so I guess that makes the practice test in the book a little harder than the real thing, which is a good prep in itself). The real test contains 120 multiple choice/selected response questions, but the practice test in this booklet only contains 100. Get your hands on other available practice tests out there to get a better idea of the real format—like the computer delivered test from ETS. All said, this was a handy guide and should not be passed up if you are serious about familiarizing yourself with the material and PASSING the exam. Let’s put it this way, it was in my car with me (along with some Mometrix flash cards) when I drove to take the exam—I passed the first time!

If you are studying for any of the Praxis II exams get any of the study guides from this series. They are well organized, well written and straight to the point! They might be a little pricey but look for a used one and then resell it when your done. I've taken 3 Praxis II exams and passed them all using these guides. The information is very concentrated but that's what you need to pass these tests and that's what you want if you spend the money on a guide.

This book covers a wide range of material that I really needed to go over and review. I like how the book breaks topics up into categories, so I could focus on areas that I need to study more. I really like that there is a practice test at the back of the book, and the answer guide actually explains the reasoning for the answer to the question. This is a very helpful book.

I read the wonderful reviews and ordered this book. Shortly after getting it, I began to wonder if I had made a bad purchase. Here's why. I looked over the practice test questions and then began reading the book. I was unable to locate the answers from the text in the book. I only had a short time to prepare for this test so I didn't want to waste time. I borrowed a text book from my local school where I work and spent most of my study time there. The day before the test I took the practice test from this book and as I went through it I googled what I didn't know. As I checked my answers, I found discrepancies between the book and information from the internet. So I looked up the information on multiple sources and this book is wrong. If you are wondering if it helped me on the test. No it didn't. I passed but that was because of the information I gleaned from the textbook I borrowed and because some of the information was stuff I had already learned in the past. One more thing to consider is look at the reviews closely(which I did not do). Compare the reviews by Verified purchases and the ones that aren't. The unverified purchase reviews are very generic and could be referring to any book by this company or any test. One of those reviews mentions how well organized the book is but I even noticed areas where the book was covering topics that should have been in other sections. For example nutrition info right in the middle of the Resource Management section! I just would not waste the money!

My first impression after studying the content that it gives the basic facts for most of the topics I'd like to review for the test, but I found some key information lacking. For example, under Food and Nutrition, I was looking for specific information such as understanding safety and sanitation procedures; knowledge of concept of food science; the biological, chemical and physical properties of food and food preservation methods that were not in the study guide

I am currently studying praxis ii family and consumer science 5122. It is very informative. I'm looking to receive a DVD to help me in my studies. I would recommend this book to others.

I liked the size of the study guide, it wasn’t too bulky and easily carried. Also, the questions and practice test are commensurate with the actual test.
